WHY DOES THIS MOVIE HAVE SUCH A BAD REP?!?!?! IT WAS A MASTERPIECE!!!

Now that I have your attention with that overly obnoxious subject, let me clarify something. No, Movie 43 is in no way a "Masterpiece".
BUT......That's not the goal of the movie.

I've seen many people on this site complain about movies; movies that I consider good or at least decent are taken differently by many of the critics the community of IMDb. There was the reaction towards "The Dark Knight Rises," about the many plot holes, then there was "The Hobbit" because of the odd frame rate and different feel compared to LotR. However the reactions for "Movie 43" were enough to convince me to write something for a change.

So far I've only seen horribly negative reviews and complaints. I just saw the movie today and I have to say, in my opinion, this movie was one of the funniest movies I've seen in years. I think I have an idea with why people hate this movie so much. With actors such as Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry, the audience more than likely want something with at least a bit of seriousness. Like I said before it's not meant to be a masterpiece, it's meant to make people laugh. It may may make one breathless out of laughter and the other with a pouting face and their arms crossed.

Many on IMDb consider this blatantly unfunny, which is easily not true (unless you hate the disgusting violence of today's media). There are some pretty funny things in Movie 43. One of the funniest I remember is when Batman was insulting Supergirl's vagina size, saying: "God it's like a giant cornfield in there, it's like I'm expecting Shoeless Joe Jackson to appear playing baseball" (Something like that). Yes, it doesn't make the movie funny or worth watching, (and if you still don't like that joke then fine, to each his own.) but at least give it some credit for trying. It's an unbelievably ridiculous concept I know, but still it's shock humor. That's the point.

I think people just wanted a tiny but of seriousness and were so disappointed when they saw Hugh Jackman's "ball neck" that they shut down all senses of humor and started pointing out flaws, which is what happens when you're disappointed. People get so angry with movies such as these, they start getting pissed off whenever they see people laughing at something that they don't think is funny. So those people come to this site and proclaim: "Idiocracy is happening". Although it obviously is going to happen, I don't think that Idiocracy and Movie 43 have anything to do with each other. Movie 43's main objective is to "shock" you into laughter. In today's society it takes a lot to shock a person; the reason being that in the previous generation, shock laughter came easy, then people got bored of the easy shock, so the media put in harder material then the process repeats.

You all probably know this, but in my opinion Idiocracy and shock humor have little to do with each other. I don't know why people even got on that topic in the first place. Maybe it's because that since Hollywood has been so great in the past (Yes, great.) the people have much higher expectations for movies. The people have such high expectations they want every movie to be a "Return of the King" and they want every movie who's goal in creation isn't to create art, but to entertain to crash and burn. That's why I rate my movies based on what they set out to do. I gave this a 9.6 out of 10 because it did indeed shock me. I laughed, hard.

I know that I got a little too deep into a topic based on some reviews of a 0% serious comedy, but I just have to say how weird it is to me how Jackass is loved by many yet Movie 43, which is basically a planned, directed and edited version of Jackass is hated so much.
I don't know. I'm just writing down my thoughts hoping that they made sense. But what about you guys? I guess I just need some explanation as to why this movie is so hated.

The reason it may seem like there's more negativity than positivity here is that negative opinions and reactions are stronger than "yeah, wasn't bad" - hence you feel more compelled to put it all down on paper/screen. So there's that explained.

But it's not just people on this site who thought this movie was terrible - virtually every review has been appalling as well.

As for shock humour? There was nothing at all shocking in this. Anyone who gets shocked by bodily functions and genitals is not worth consulting about shock humour. If you want to see real shock humour done well, check out something like the 'Brass Eye' paedophilia special or a film like 'Happiness'. I'd actually argue that 'South Park', at its better moments, qualifies as well.

These bastards!

I completely agree with you, I dont know what people expected, it looked like a ridiculous movie & it was a ridiculous movie.. ment to offend & it did.. didnt expect oscar worthy performances, I expected some oscar worthy actors (most) to play out stupid plots and get silly.. I really think people are taking it too seriously. Its like a highschool "what if" conversation played out in film.. hilarious

The only thing I disagree with you is you hate The Dark Knight Rises but I thought it was a good movie, but the rest you said is so true.

I never said I hated TDKR

Pretty sure that's his signature. Like mine down the bottom of this reply here.

THIS IS THE BEST DAMN THING YOU'LL EVER SEE.

No it's not. It's a bunch of talented actors doing amatuer hour in a bunch of lame sketches that think they are outrageous and offensive when they are not.

I count six shots.
I count two guns!

Guess you didn't read my text.

Still better than SNL

This movie was hilarious. Like full-on tears in my eyes, punching myself in the leg, wondering how they'd somehow top it funny. It delivered on everything I want out of a $9 ticket for a series of barely-connected over the top comedy sketches. Loved it, will totally watch it again, and I applaud the film makers to chucking a middle finger to the PC world we sit in.

I haven't laughed out loud so hard at a movie in say....since Scary Movie came out.

enjoyed the film immensely and pissed myself laughing all the way through, unfortunately political correctness in america doesnt allow you to laugh at this type of comedy, and sarcasm which the whole movie was throwing at the film industry smack bang in the face, bring on more of the same,

americans sense of humor is summed up by that fact that most priceless british comedies have to be rewritten so the usa wiil understand them, learn to laugh at yourself

This movie was awesome. Ignore anyone who says otherwise.

I agree, op. Granted, it wasn't a masterpiece, but I think it was funny. I guess the only thing that got to me was the ridiculous flow of the movie. But, then again, I would like to point something out to people to give them a new perspective of the film. Even though it got weird and the shock factor was high, it honestly reminded me of Robot Chicken- but with the sketches written out like a spoof genre and made with real life actors. Think about it. It's a sequence of sketches that don't blend together (besides "the pitch" as a transition sketch). And everyone knew it was bad. It wasn't made to be a masterpiece or anything like that. It was suppose to put a twist (albeit sick, weird, or demented) on things that stray from your cookie-cutter, serious, action, comedy, drama, etc genre. And there is an audience for this believe it or not. Think of the people who come up with crazy definitions on urban dictionary or even some stuff on youtube or 4chan- just to name a couple places. All that I'm saying is, yes, I liked the movie. It wasn't the best, and It makes me sad seeing reviews by people who hold a standard with movies.
