They never preformed...

Billy Elliott the musical and wonder why?

reply

There were a lot of musicals that they didn't touch at all.

reply

Because it is not widely known.

reply

Ummm yes it was.. Billy Elliot the musical was on Broadway during the time glee was on. You could see the billboard for it when they want to New York for there contest.
BETM ended its Broadway run on January 8 2012

Won ten Tony's

So it was on people radar!

reply

For the general audience it was not It not like a long running classic like West side story where a movie version has been around for ever or a modern day classic like Wicked which had had several US tours already.

And the move of Billy Elliot was not a musical and the show had just started touring in just a few US cities at that time so the general audience would not be very familiar with song fomr Billy Elliot.

reply

Also as mention there were a lot of more well known musicals never to have songs. They could not do them all.

reply

Right... After tour 1.0 and the revamped tour 2.0 added more cities to its list. It got more popularity.

If glee was still on it would probably be doing the songs.

There are a lot of theater productions going on in different cities and across the pond besides Westend.

Here is hoping for a NBC or FOX production of BETM LIVE!!

reply

If glee was still going on it would mostly be doing current hits more than anything.

I gave you plausible reasons why no songs from BETM were on glee as of Feb 2015 when they filmed their last episode.

reply

They probably do it.. For Elton John tribute but I guess Sir Elton hating glee.

At lest BETM got a brief cameo in season 2 New York.

Well I hope BETM will be the next project for NBC OR FOX musical live!

reply

Too immature and cheap, no offense, IMO.

reply

Right.::
Anyway all the citywide playhouses are putting there own production of BETM has we speak.

More productions are happening in Europe.

Glee did have a chance to hop on the band wagon I guess Sir Elton say No.

reply

Elton John gave permission for them to do at least three of his songs that I can remember...

Don't Go Breaking My Heart
I'm Still Standing
Your Song

and is on record as saying that he is always flattered to have other people record his songs. He has met a number of the cast members and continues to have dealings with them today. Lea, Matt and Chris are all co-chairs again for his annual Oscar Night party / fund-raiser coming up soon.

I'm pretty sure it's like other posters have said here and Billy Elliott just wasn't something that was on Glee's radar to do at the time.

They recorded an absolutely amazing 700+ covers in their 6 years on air, but that is just an insignificant drop in the ocean compared to the vast number of songs that have been written throughout human history.

reply

I'm more surprised they never touched any music from Spring Awakening considering that's where Lea got her start.

reply

I wanted them to sing "Achy Breaky Heart".

reply

they never preformed my Heart will go on
