It was hard to get a perspective of how high up they were, but I think I would've at least used everyone's coat to make a rope with the sleeves to shave off some height, hang at the bottom of it, and then let go. That's at least a good 20ft you wouldn't have to deal with.
shareI think I read something about the thickness and fabric of the coats making it impossible to make a secure knot, if even that. With how cold it was, I also wonder if taking off their coats for 4 minutes would have been a death sentence...
There might be a thread that specifically says something about coats in the subject-- perhaps do a command+f search thing.

I agree about the fabric being an issue, and the time of exposure to the elements while trying to knot it up. But I'd still try it. Jumping is not an option, and sitting there for a week isn't either.
shareWhy do people keep bringing that up, it's not a good idea. Like the other person said and like I wrote before in threads that mentioned this plan, the material the coats are made off and the thickness make it impossible to make a knot out of them.
Also, like another person said, they would freeze faster if they took their clothes off.
Even if they somehow succeeded in tying those clothes it would probably untie itself the moment one of them tried to climb down, they would fall, break some bones and they would lie there, if they survived, almost naked and freeze and since the clothes would fall with that person the other two would freeze faster as well.
Sitting there is a far better option.
Lol, I just had the exact same thought at the scene where the guy broke his legs. They could have made a rope with their jackets and sweaters to at least get closer to the ground before they jump.
