For those suggesting it would be easy to fight off a wolf...

WOlves are bigger, stronger and more feral than dogs. And you CONSTANTLY hear on the news about people getting mauled and killed by dogs. Not wolves....NEIGHBORHOOD DOGS. Pets.

Have you ever had a german shepherd come at you? Watch You Tube videos of police dogs taking down perps.

WOlves, wild, feral, hungry and strong.....not tio mention, PACK HUNTERS......would be FAR more daunting, and if one (or a few) wanted to attack you, they'd charge you, and take you down off your feet quickly. And there's nothing your little blunt, lightweight ski pole could do to stop it.

I just watched it with my daughter and 2 days ago with my husband. We had the same discussion. Strength in numbers. Fighting one off would be hard (not impossible), but several? No way. Not to mention, they were already injured and weakened.

Problem is that in reality those wolves would not even be there. Wolves are naturally timid, shy creatures that tend to avoid humans if at all possible. That area did not look like there would be a scarcity of a wolf's regular diet of hooved animals - deer, moose, I can't think of what else has hooves besides cattle and wolves do occasionally steal from a farmers herd to eat but humans? Just not a likely scenario. Screen writers and fiction writers give wolves such a bad rap and NONE of it is based in FACT on the natural behavior of wolves. That was not a new ski resort so the wolves that claimed that territory would already have set up a hunting perimeter far away from the resort. Those wolves did not look starved (a situation where they WOULD eat a human) and even if they were hungry, they had JUST fed off the first guy so they would already have wandered off away from the lift area.

There is absolutely NOTHING about the presence of the wolves in such close proximity to a ski resort, much less the attack on a human in broad daylight, that is based in fact on a wolf's normal behavior - this was just another excuse for the pubic to want all wolves destroyed... such a shame.
