"Ironically, Shawn Ashmore played Iceman in the first three X-Men movies."

That's not irony; that's called COINCIDENCE.

Who taught you English Lit? Alanis Morrissette?? Damn, people, pick up a dictionary.

reply

He played a character who can use ice powers and in this movie he was freezing to death, so yeah, irony.

reply

Nope. Still not irony. You said it yourself, "He played a character..." That's what actors DO. That's like saying, "One time, six years ago, I had this dream about snow flakes and then last night I dreamed about fire. Isn't that ironic??" No. This actor has played a ton of characters. The fact that some of his characters live and some die, or the fact that some die by freezing to death, does not make them ironic. Similarly, in his career, I'm sure he's played some "good guys" and some "bad guys", some cops, some robbers. No irony there. That's what he does. Another example: "I knew this one guy who was an electrician, but then I knew this other guy who got struck by lightning. Isn't that ironic??" Again, no. Now, if you knew an electrician who was struck by lightning, THAT would be irony - because it was the SAME person. Similarly, if Iceman froze to death, THAT would be irony. But, just because an actor plays different roles and those roles by coincidence meet opposite fates, that is not irony.

Time for recess!

reply

It's irony because the actor played a character who can't freeze to death and in another role the exact opposite happened. This isn't the first time stuff like this is called ironic, it happened with other actors and actresses as well.

reply

Right. And it was INCORRECT then, too!

reply

It may not be ironic but it is pretty funny.

reply

Perhaps. But that's because humor is subjective. The definition of irony is not.
