But that ski resort allowed people to ski during the night. Remember, the only reason the ski lift guy didn't want them to go on one last run was because of the weather, not the fact that it was dark out.
So no there was no reason for the wolves to be there because people do ski at night which meant that they would be killed and eaten by wolves.

I think you're misreading the point of that dialogue. The weather was the reason he put forward; they could obviously see that it was dark, and they still wanted to go anyway, and we saw from the earlier conversation about the bribe that he wasn't great at saying no. So he told them about the weather, maybe hoping that would persuade them; it's not like he was saying, "Hey, if it wasn't for the weather, it would be fine for you to go."
And maybe the park wasn't aware wolves were actually coming in that close when there were no humans around. Maybe the wolves only dared it in response to the smell of Dan's blood.
