It’s a pity that they didn’t develop such an interesting idea about clones in any interesting way

In fact, this is the path to immortality. In the future, if they come up with this, then it will be possible to load your memory into a clone of yourself. The only problem is that the original remains alive. To solve this, the original must be killed as soon as he sent his memory. Thus, he will fall asleep and wake up in a new body.

In the film, the clone received all the memory right up to the moment the original sat in the chair and sent it to him. Therefore, original can calmly be killed and he will basically just jump over. And the clone would have no sense of guilt towards the original for taking his life. And the original would not have suffered the last weeks of its life.

You should watch Altered Carbon. It has a concept where every person's memories are stored on a tiny hard drive in their brain stem, so if they die their "mind" can be transferred into another body, but not necessarily a clone unless you're super wealthy. For example, in the first episode a young girl's mind is placed inside the body of a really old woman because that's the only body her parents can afford to buy her. And in another episode one of the main characters's elderly mother's mind is placed in the body of a tattooed male skinhead. It's an absolutely brilliant show that deals with the implications of this type of life extension, how rich people can afford to essentially become immortal while regular people can only afford to transfer their minds only once or twice. One of my favorite scifi shows ever.

What you said was roughly the premise of The 6th Day (2000) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. In that movie they do it even cleaner.

You back up your memories periodically / every day. Then on the day you die, be it from an illness or accident or murder, the cloning company will simply use the latest copy, put it in a new body and voilà... you're alive again.

No need to be concerned by the ethics and feelings on killing your original you. If you're a clone that means you were dead already.

They figured it out 20 years before this movie.

I think ethically they would do this if this was real. Buuuut they had to make a movie. Wanted to explore the relationship a person would have with themselves and how they would deal with someone else moving on and them staying behind.
