Warren (Guy on the boat) Deleted Scene

OK, Warren is the guy on the boat who decides to stay and not swim for it. Everyone leaves the overturned boat, and he is left alone on it. We see some Tuna splash around and then a singular fin slice through the water. Cut to Warrens horrified face, and we never see him again. Now this is what I don't understand:

On the back of the DVD cover/box for "The Reef" there is a picture of Warren in the water, swimming like hell open mouthed with the EMPTY overturned boat in the background at least 100 yards behind him. He is front crawling like hell away from the overturned ship (towards the group which left hours ago?). I'm sure this is Warren, same shirt same face. This leads me to believe that there was a deleted death scene for him filmed where he decides to make a swim for it and catch up to the group, only to be eaten as he swims for his life.

Don't believe me? Look on the back of your DVD for "The Reef" and see for yourself.

Yes, you are right, there is a picture of him on the box of the DVD. But there was no deleted scene like this included in the extras. That means it's on the cutting room floor.
I always thought the way they left him on the boat with the sharks circling wasn't right, that there was something missing. I think this is the missing scene that should of been left in the film.

Agreed. As the movie went on I kept expecting them to show us what became of him, or to at least go back there at the end. lol, I would've loved for him to end up being the only survivor, thus proving that swimming for 10 miles in shark infested waters was a ridiculously dangerous idea.

But on the other hand, he chose to play it safe and was never seen again.

Yep, he was warned the boat was gonna sink, which it probably did since it was never found.

But he knew what he was doing I think... just couldn't overcome the fear to get in the water. I can relate... I used to have similar fears, and even now I and not sure which option I would choose.

I could of sworn that the first time I saw this movie on cable the scene you are referring to was included and Warren was shown being attacked. However, I am watching it again on Showtime and the scene doesn't appear. Could there be two versions?

Interesting point RBJ. And its really bad form for them to publish a pic on the dvd cover that is not in the film, and not even a 'deleted scene,' and which poses such un-answered questions.

The whole 'what exactly happened to Warren?' question is something that has always bugged me about this (otherwise very good) film. Until now I've just accepted the film-maker's decision to leave it to our imagination. But if they're going to slap pictures of his death scene on the publicity, the least they could have done is put it in the actual movie!

Is it the scene depicted here?

Could that not just be a still from when they were all scrambling to get onto the hull of the boat after it turned over?

I've seen this happen with a lot of films, though. It's a current trend for movies to shoot footage for trailers, for instance, of scenes that don't exist in the movie itself and were never intended to. But it goes way back: if you ever see any replica "lobby cards" from older movies, the ones intended for publicity displays in foyers for "coming soon" movies, you'll notice they're almost always staged promo shots and not direct stills from the movie itself.

The shot of Warren could be like that. At least they included him, and it's more dramatic than a shot of him atop the capsized boat looking worried. After all, the shot of Susie with the torch shining up through the water wasn't in the movie, and neither was the shot on the front cover.

And the shot of the shark on the back not only isn't in the movie, but it isn't even the same breed of shark.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I still want to see or know what happened in the bloody scene. Too bad no one attached to this movie ever visits the site, or even if the actor who played Warren were to let us in on what happened but was cut to his character.

Anyone out there?

From what I see, he is far from the yacht and swimming away from it. There is no one around him, and he is alone and screaming. He could be screaming because he is being hit from underneath and being eaten or he could be yelling for the others to slow down.

I can see a cool scene where he's swimming like hell and can see the others but is just out of earshot. He's screaming bloody murder trying to get there attention, so they will slow down and let him catch up when....he gets hit, and is the first victim.
