I give up... there are no good sharks movies since Jaws

Sharks are my biggest fear; I've spent a lot of time trying to find a good scary shark movie. Comments in this thread indicated me that this actually could work, but it wasn't scary AT ALL.

SOOO dissapointed, I want my one hour and a half back.

This movie wasn't bad. I admit I went in thinking it would be the next "Jaws" having previously seen "Black Water" by the guys who made this and was more than dissapointed when Warren didn't get a death scene, but this movie is superb for doing what it set out to do. Scare the hell out of you.

I only wish it had more gore, but its still rated R for a reason.

I don't know about scary, but I enjoyed "deep blue sea." It has some jumpy moments but I guess it is more action and some comedy. Another movie you might want to check out which sounds boring but is surprisingly effective is "open water 2." Now this movie is nothing like the first. And the original Austin Powers, if you want frickin sharks with frickin laser beams on their heads.

Good Answer, Galves!
You're right: Jaws should not be taken as a comparison parameter =)

The Reef was good. I would label it shark movie number 2 or 3, depending on whether Open Water is a shark movie or not. Jaws is number 1, obviously.

Everything you have written is so true. I was so pumped up for it after reading reviews. But I was so bored, felt nothing. Usually shark movies sort of get my adrenaline pumping, or like you start feeling tingly. lol! I can't even explain it properly, but you know that feeling sort of like when something scary is chasing u or whatever. But nada during this film. blah. I feel like it was technically good. Like a typical - critics will like it - sort of thing. But it had no feeling to it for me. Not for people who like to be freaked out by sharks.

Agreed. The problem is, Jaws set the bar for shark movies so high that no other film could possibly hope to compete. That said, I quite enjoyed this movie. I wouldn't say it was scary, but there were some moments of genuine tension and the performances were generally of a decent quality - added to which, I've always had a weakness for Australian cinema.
