As good as Black Water?
What say you?
shareThis movie was a huge improvment on black water a movie I did not particularly like. The acting was impressive, the stalking scenes riveting. The epirb scene bothered me a little as epirbs are picked up by satellites and not aircraft, then again i do not know what year this was supposed to be. Also who knows if it was even working esp if it was old. Apart from that the movie was brilliantly made, i was really on the edge of my seat, great realistic suspense. I much prefer this type to movie to american over the top cheesy scripts. 9/10
shareBlack Water will be a tough act to follow.

Faster paced than Black Water. Better than Open Water. Rogue (2007) is the best.
shareI liked The Reef, but I thought Black Water was better, as I thought the acting in BW was overall superior (though the actors in The Reef are fine), the suspense was even stronger, and the climactic confrontation was more satisfying.
sharei havnt seen Black Water so i cant comment, might try and find it online and watch it tonight. But wanted to say Rogue is amazing. Def better then the Reef. although i really enjoyed the reef. the only problem i had with it was i found the main girl annoying, not her fault, just the way they wrote her character. and also i didnt like the ending, very cliche. If i watch Black Water ill come back and tell u lol

I honestly don't understand how anyone could find Black Water boring. I suppose if you were looking for a film where people were being attacked and killed every two seconds, that would be a problem (Rogue was more of this style. I enjoyed Rogue, but I thought Black Water was much more suspenseful, especially with how low-budget it was); however, I found the atmosphere and the situation very chilling. Yes, people are stuck in a tree, but where the hell else are they supposed to go? If you're going to pick on it that way, I suppose you could say that Open Water is about people floating around in the water for 90 minutes, or that Alien is about people stuck on a spaceship for 90 minutes; it's not the setting itself, it's the situational survival that makes it scary. Of course, I'm not intending to step on anyone's toes. Everyone's tastes differ, and I understand Black Water may not be everyone's cup of tea.
That being said, I'm interested in seeing what people have to say about The Reef in comparison to Black Water. If The Reef is anywhere near as good or better, I'll be dying to see it.
ok, i hired out black water today and have to say i enjoyed it much more then the Reef. :)
It was so stressful!! lol. i didnt realise it was another Aussie movie which was a bonus.
I liked them both but if i had to pick i would pick Black Water as the best. It was wayyy less predictable and they were more likeable then the people in Reef. and i found it more suspensful and stressful waiting for the croc then i did the shark. even though im more scared of sharks then crocs.

Black Water was much better. It was intense, dark and actually scary. The actors were all great too.
The Reef was not bad, I enjoyed it. But it wasn't as intense. Some of the characters made pretty dumb moves that got them killed or others. What they got right were the shots of the shark on the attack. It was pretty shocking when the shark grabbed the annoying husband.
Black Water is much better. I found The Reef pretty boring to be honest.

Haven't seen Black Water yet, so can't comment on that. The Reef was ok. I gave it a 6 our of 10. There were some boring parts, but the acting wasn't terrible and there were some intense moments. It was amazing how many tiny Rock Islands were out there for them to rest on. The sharks in the water were real. The fins going by the actors probably weren't however. Didn't care much for the ending. With another 5+ mins there could have been a more appropriate ending. It was still way better then Open Water and Open Water 2, which I gave a 3 and 2 score respectively. Those movies were terrible. Primevil could have been better. Gave that a 5. Rogue was much better. Gave that movie a 7.
shareno cigar. This is a very good movie, but Black Water is more realistic and suspenseful between the two.
shareNaw, I loved black water. They need to make a movie about that megalodon shark. That's like twice the size of a great white. Would be like super jaws.
shareI love both movies but I think that the reef is a little better, I think that is mostly because of the environment, being trapped in the ocean with a shark being able to swoop in and get you at any second and being completely helpless to stop it was scarier than being trapper in a tree, at least the tree offered a bit of a safe zone, but yeah I absolutely recommend both films I think they are great
shareBoth are very suspenseful with good acting, but there is a quality to Black Water the Reef just doesn't have. There were a few scenes in Black Water where the croc barely surfaced & just looked at them, those scenes were so menacing, you just can't get that same look out of a shark underwater.

Black Water = 9/10
The Reef = 7/10
Black Water is one of the most intense movies I've ever seen. The atmosphere is chilling to the bone.
Both movies have extremely effective and scary shark/crocodile encounters, but overall I prefer Black Water.
