I tried...

...but couldn't make it through. I love bad cinema but this was beyond bad. It gave me the same feeling all of Ed Wood's movies did and the ironic thing is I could never finish any of his movies either. I laughed maybe three times and I'll give this film credit. These laughs were chuckles they were roll on the floor laughing type laughs. It was funny but after awhile it got old. I understand the director may have been this cocky guy that actually thought he was making art and that everything was perfect. Apparently this guy knew absolutely nothing about continuity, editing, sound mixing (I never knew eagles made that sound, just about any romantic scene of dialogue is obscured by ambient sounds because ADR was apparently too expensive even though any idiot with a microphone and a computer can do it, inconsistent sound volume, etc.) score mixing (I mean for the opening credits did he seriously think the audience wouldn't realize that he looped the same cue about 4 times?), etc.

Like I said, I love bad cinema. Hell, I'm probably one of the only people within 60 miles that actually knows who Troma is and promotes their work. This was below Troma bad, beyond SciFi channel bad. It's in a bad of it's own. It wouldn't be so bad if the director had intended the movie to be a kind of campy joke but because he thinks it's actually a good movie I just can't appreciate it.

Who am I to complain though? It's developed a high fan base and has sold more tickets and DVDs than the lowest Hollywood flick so apparently it has its niche somewhere. I just don't get it. I guess I'm giving this film what it wanted: to discuss it, to ponder over the mystery of its success, etc.

Anyway, I'm done now. Have a good day, everyone!
