As silly as this sounds, I had really hoped the other....

dog would show up. When I heard the rustling in the bushes, that was my hope. I knew it wasn't but the animal lover and happy ending lover in me was hoping. God that would have ruined the movie.

The wounded puppy managed to run in wintertime from Colorado, where the accident happened, and back to California? You must be joking. Or over-optimistic.

In fact these dogs got there mainly because they are Tom Ford's own dogs. It was not so important addition to the film but still nice. Gives us some touching scenes. Actually, animals kind of filling absence of children for many guy couples.

No dogs in the Isherwood book, but Jim kept many other animals. George wasn't happy to have them constantly before his eyes when Jim was gone. To remind him of Jim - of his absence, actually. The book and the film differ a great deal in such details.

Yes, overly optimistic. A Single Man- Homeward Bound edition would have been silly, as I said. But the part of me that wants a happy for everyone, and to tie up loose ends, can't help worrying about that cold pup dying alone in the snow.

Adding the dogs was a nice touch. It did show that they cared for something together. Thanks for pointing out the differences from book to movie.

They establish that family loved the dogs and one was not found. To me him not looking for it was a hint that the family adopted the remaining dog.

Oh, man.
I'm afraid everyone except me is over-optimistic.

The accident happened somewhere on the road. Chilling snow and all that. Do you think the puppy was patiently awaiting when he was safely put in the loving family arms? For how long?

The puppy wasn't in evidence after the accident. More likely it means the poor thing just run away no one knows where. Not seriously hurt? Might it survive? The family, as the nephew told George, had no idea there was another dog at all.

How do you like the idea of mine, that the puppy might be slightly hurt and picked up by some casual but compassionate passerby...?
It would be nice.
