Matthew Goode as Robert Evans is fantastic

Can't keep my eyes off him. I've seen interviews with Evans and Goode is doing a good job there. Best of all he's adding a lot of humor the show desperately needs. Watch it just for him. Can't believe this is Ozymandias I'm seeing.

His acting is good, though not sure he always captures Evans speech patterns that accurately. Part of it is what he's given to say, of course. If you like to Evans' autobiography he doesn't exactly talk like that.

reply

Because Evans was older when he recored the audiobook for his autobiography.

Matthew Goode based the voice on interviews Evans gave in the 70's, and he nailed it.

reply

I didn't mean the voice as much as the word choices, expressions and so on.

reply

I know what you mean, and it's never going to be a 100% carbon copy portrayal. But Matthew got three things right: The voice, the attitude and the looks. And damn was it fun to watch!

reply

Agree, he is great in that role!

reply

The whole cast was great! I really liked Giovanni Ribisi as Joe Colombo too.

reply

Agreed, Ribisi was wonderful, and showed what a great actor he is. This feels like a comeback role for him.

reply

I like how Goode made the choice to "do" Evans voice by sounding -- all the time -- like his nose is stuffed up with a bad cold.

It seems that this was a great "baseline" for the voice impression which allowed Goode to stay grounded for the rest of the impression.

reply

“Wonderful” doesn’t exactly cover it.
He disappears into the character.
I can’t even see the acting.

Giovani Ribisi is one of our best actors. I’ve thought so ever since “Boiler Room.”
Were I a director, I would just hire him and then change the material to put him in it.

reply

Yep.
And I’ve seen footage of Evans, from that documentary about him and elsewhere.
That’s him.

Casting is the strongest feature of the series.
Ironic considering casting was arguably the biggest battle of the subject film.
