Just like with Terra Nova, Revolution, Invasion, etc, etc....

Yet another show with a big budget and big production value, which collapses under its own weight....which in turn jerks the rug out from under any of us who got invested in it.

V was a good effort, and got off to a great start. But I think a couple key things hurt it. It burned brightly, but burned out quickly. After a great first five or six episodes, it started to get more and more convoluted and contrived. It's like...this concept worked better as a mini series when first done in the 80's. As a long-form series...they run out of story ideas and start building the plane while it's already in the air.

Also, it was yet another show that fell victim to its own extremes. When they spend that much on a show, it has to do extremely well in order to recover the budget. When it doesn't...they have to pull the plug after one or sometimes two seasons....right as people are really getting invested. As this happens more and more often, people are less inclined to take a chance on a network TV show and get invested...for fear it will just get canceled.

I have stopped watching shows like this until they have a few seasons under their belt and seem to be going strong. I got burned too many times getting interested in shows that they cancel. At this point it might be that enough people feel the same way, so they don't get the ratings, so they get cancelled. Sad, because I feel like there are series that would build an audience if a network committed to them. At this point it seems almost impossible to get any kind of new science fiction show off the ground.
