Why did the ships stay above the cities? (semi-serious)

I know this sounds a little silly but I'm currently watching the show for the first time (almost finished S1) and I thought about how little sense it makes to let the motherships stay above the cities. I mean, those things are HUGE and hundreds it not thousands of households are living in the dark due to the ships. Wouldn't the government ask the V's to move the ships a few miles? They could always come back if Anna makes one of those public announcements. I know this is totally ridiculous but it's just a detail that IMO was not well thought-out by the writers and this is symptomatic for many other flaws in the show's writing. The ideas on this shows are fairly good and entertaining but the execution is often weak.

This was a bit of an issue when it first aired too. Don't know if you're really going to get much of an answer. They stayed because they need to make announcements. Maybe they didn't move because they said hovering takes less energy than moving back and forth. Nothing was explained on the show though. I don't think the writers thought about it. You'd think there'd be a lot of moving to get out from under the ships.

Yeah, I agree. And like I said this is obviously not a very important issue but it's just one of many things that were simply not thought-out by the writers. I thought about the energy-saving argument, too, but didn't Anna say that their "Blue Energy" is limitless and completely without negative side-effects (hence making it feasible to produce as much as possible)? Not to mention that moving a few miles every now and then doesn't seem like a big deal for ships which have crossed space to get to Earth, right? lol

Because the ships in the Original V series did the same thing, and they were twice as big and - dare I say it - looked COOLER than this series.

I mean, there's something seriously gay-looking with those shuttlecraft, I've never seen a cheesier design.

Yeah, the shuttles look absolutely terrible. Hard to believe that this is the best they could've come up with. The motherships, on the other hand, looked fairly great IMO and I still wonder how they managed to make the CGI motherships look so real and convincing when the rest of the CGI on this show is among the worst I've seen in quite some time (especially the interior of the motherships).
