i really can't imagine how this show could have been much worse. The dialog was atrocious, the storylines were absurd and most of the characters were unbelievably stupid.
like many of you i wanted to like it but it really was one of the worst "big series" shows i've ever seen.

For me, the show spun its wheels too much. It seemed as though every week someone else turned out to be a double agent. I'm sure there's a reason the original was only a MINIseries. That said, I'd still take this over any tired old medical, legal, or cop/detective drama.

Well, to be honest, I remember being intrigued by the pilot eps...then ABC in their infinite wisdom decided to wait several months before airing the rest of season 1...and pretty much lost me and my girlfriend as viewers last year. Brilliant broadcast schedule strategy. lol
Anywho, I'm glad I never got back into it since it was canceled. I was a huge fan of the original as a kid, so I think I'll just continue with those memories and not bother watching the rest of the re-boot. Though the original is horrendously cheesy by today's standards, I re-watched the mini-series on Netflix and thought it was still fun. :) 80's hair notwithstanding. ;)
To be honest I'm beginning to lose faith in the networks to bring us anything decent in the Sci-Fi arena that will have legs. The only thing I've seen in the past 5 yrs that I truly loved was Stargate Universe (very good writing and acting, though some feel it's a bit heavy on the character driven story-lines and too light on plot driven or set piece battles). And that got unceremoniously canceled after 2 seasons for a variety of unfortunate reasons.
Network execs are such a bunch of spineless, soul-sucking, greedy SOBs it's no wonder that viewers can't count on anything truly good to last. If it's not low brow enough to appeal to the masses it's gone. And if it has a high budget it's gone (Carnivale, Deadwood, SGU, Firefly, Surface, The 4400, etc...). I guess V (2009) was badly written though, so perhaps it deserved its fate. I won't be watching the rest of it to find out. ;)

The original may be cheesy but I cared more about the characters in five minutes of watching it, than I did in all two seasons of the reboot. Don't get me wrong I don't think it's perfect, it had a lot of faults as well but then again compared to the reboot it probably is.

The original "V"'s "Final Battle" sequel and short-lived NBC TV show had faults as well (especially 'The Final Battle'), but the 2009 V pilot alone had more gaffes and logic problems than the original.

They never really tried. And that was the problem. The show relied more on the f/x than anything else. The f/x were usually quite competent, but yet they couldn't even put out a decent gun fight in the pilot with Visitor weapons taking down tons of humans.
And that's the other problem - the original, while dated, knows how to bring in a large, scary, almost-impossible-to-eliminate force. The remake just stumbles along and hopes people wouldn't notice.
After the pilot and a couple other eps, and a couple of clips with Jane Badler, it was easy to see why the show was canceled, though I was surprised the show even got a second chance to begin with.
Although most shows now on the air kind of suck too. So in comparison, it's probably about average.

I would say 60% of the shows demise was the Network. ABC flat out killed this show from beginning with the hiatus from season one. and Paul Lee showed no interest in it by cutting season 2 to 10 episodes. the show was done from then. ABC never kept the fans by jerking the show around so they 14 mil viewers it started off with vanish by series end.
The rest of the blame was the writing which SuCKED! Way to inconsistent, too serious and the resistance sucked. There was none to begin with, the V's were bland as hell. They had a decent cast for the most part and what ever hope they had, was lost by the 5th grade writing. And who knows where the exec producer was going with the mythology about RELIGION of all things.. but I digress.
At the end of the day for me it was mindless entertainment. Both sides of the production spectrum was to blame, ABC for yanking the show around and the Producers for not knowing how to run the show. All that Wasted potential.
Sad but saw it coming from a mile.

I don't watch shows to be educated it is really about relaxation for me. This show was not bad at all to me. I personally liked the mystery it gave about who was really on the V's side or not. I don't understand how these other tv shows get on air when they are boring as hell. There are many worse shows on right now. I no longer pay for full cable nothing interesting on anymore.

The 2009 remake sucks big time, the writing is terrible, the pace is very slow, it's boring as hell.
Compared to the 80's original, this is a piece of *beep* I loved the original. It was a great show. This remake just screwed up everything.
There's no point in creating such a boring garbage, ABC should just air the 80's original which is 1000 times better, people will still love it nowadays since it's so cool.
Why create this atrocity? I see no point in that. Might as well tell Scott Peters to do something else for a living, and give Kenneth Johnson another chance, and give another TV station the rights to the franchise so that someone else makes a new but good remake, or even a continuation, like Kenneth's V The Second Generation.
I guess people are so surprised because were was a lot of other people seemingly honestly telling us how great it is. (just see that it is still rated a good 7) I remember some guy mentioning watching the first couple of minutes alone would get you hooked, but I found it lame from the first minute and did not even watch the pilot to its end.
I just couldnt care less that happened to any of the characters or how the story would develope and it was like watching the 3564th uninspired episode of x-files or whatever ...
The thing that was really strange to me was the interior of the ships. They were very spartan. Looked more like stage sets. If there was a scene in the computer room, that's all that was in the room 'a computer'. Anna's office scene had one desk and a few chairs. Medical room had beds that's it. They would throw in the floating computer screens for effects but it wasn't enough.
