Skinning question

so, I haven't finished watching yet, but it seems that removing the skin of the V's is a horrid and painful punishment. Yet in fight scenes the human skin flies off like it's made of butter. Am I missing something?

Skinning their real lizardskin/scales is the point of the punishment...

Which indeed would be horrible, for any creature.
