Who thinks they wouldn't have lasted? (Spoilers)

If the world didn't end, do you think these two would still be together? Their connection seemed situation-based and not built on much and then suddenly they're in love?

Not doubting they actually loved each other but it seems like a very Hollywood/child-like version of love instead of a real world kind of love that lasts decades.

Probably not. Penny would have left Dodge after awhile.

I think that they would have kept in touch, if by some miracle the world hadn't ended after all. But just as friends.

reply

No way..never would have lasted. Penny was too immature, flighty and irresponsible

That thought occurred to me as well but I don't think it actually matters. If the world didn't end that would remove one of the factors which made it all so poignant in the first place so them not ending up together would be a minor detail after that. Let's not forget that they would have never met at all if the world wasn't supposed to end in the first place. At worst, they both get a powerful memory to take with them the rest of their lives. Life is short anyway...we forget how fast it goes by.

Most love stories are built around the infatuation time period of relationships anyway so this fits right in with that. Real life love stories are rarely as heart warming as the ones in the movies. And there is nothing wrong with that in my view.

They would have made it a year or two at best. But I believe it would have been worthwhile for the betterment of both of them. Steve would have either met someone new or woukd have followed up with the old girlfriend he blew off. They were pretty much each others rebound and woukd have ended up good friendsat best.

If the world was not ending, they would never have even gotten together in the first place.

So yes, I think their love was situational. But I don't think that made it any less poignant or crushing.
