Was he actually planning to fly to England in that Cessna?

I was expecting a LearJet or something.. Good thing they turned around, they would have run out of fuel 700 miles off the coast of Long Island...

Also, why was tho billed as a comedy? It was a pretty sad movie,...

I was surprised at the size of the plane too...and even though she was British, I don't think she ever specifically stated her family still lived in England.

Well done. You're right. The rest of us are assuming too much. I did find an article a while back about someone who made it from the U.S. to something like Spain in a modified Cessna (extra fuel tank added behind the pilot).

I think we can assume the family still live in England, because when the survivor ex boyfriend lets her call them on his satellite phone, he says, "So about what time is it across the pond, fourteen hundred hours?"

"Across the pond" is a commonly used term for "across the Atlantic" in reference to the UK and Europe from the US, and vice versa. So I think we can assume they are still in England.

And yes, that little plane couldn't have made it. There's a LOT of ocean still to cross even if you refuel at Greenland and continue on. Even on a huge commercial flight the part of the flight crossing actual ocean seem to last for hours and hours. It's 3,000 miles.

I enjoyed the movie but that was a ridiculous plot hole, to anyone who has flown from the US to the UK or vice versa.

I was Marzipan_Girl, LOST board 2004/5. [wave] LOST 10th Anniversary!

they did, when he is on the satellite phone, the guy goes what time is it across the pond.Added to that she was to see her whole family, is it reasonable to expect her whole family, parents, niece's, sister etc emigrated to the US.

reply

I assume they used the small plane to explain why Dodge wouldn't be going with them. Kinda dopey plot device

It was a good movie otherwise.

But did she really say that her family lived in England? She was from England, yes, but I don't remember saying they lived there.

EDIT: She just said that she missed the plane to fly to her family. But her family could have been living in another country than England. You are just assuming it's England because of her origin.

What isn't glaringly obvious in this movie is that it takes place in 2021. Perhaps a more efficient fuel has been discovered by then. Perhaps the plane has a solar powered battery. Technology moves at a very rapid pace. I believe a Cesna could make it to London five years from now.

Hello I'm from the future, no small planes didn't become much more efficient in 2021, sorry,
