Any other Americans or Canucks loving this show?

I definitely miss dialogue here and there because of the accents, and dont get some of the British references (even though I've been to England several times), but I love this show nonetheless. I wouldn't be surprised to see this picked up and remade (sacrilegious, I know). The 'Beanie Toys' totally brings me back to my childhood as I knew many people like Mr. Lomax.

Anyway, only question I can think of is why does Mr. Lomax call him Tealeaf? If there are any other major references you guys think an American (don't call us Yanks--no one likes that. The Yanks are a baseball team.) wouldn't get, please feel free to share. Thanks!

tealeaf is slang for thief

Thanks. I dont really like most British TV shows. I hate the British version of the Office. I loved Episodes. I didn't like Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. I do love anything Guy Ritchie, Matthew Vaughn, and Mr. Bean, though :)

To OP; I'd highly recommend The League of Gentlemen if you like Psychoville. If anything, its an even darker (and funnier) show!

reply

Thanks I'll check it out.

if you didnt like shaun of the dead, hot fuzz or the office id say you dont understand them

reply

I'm English and I didn't find "Shaun of The Dead" or "Hot Fuzz" the least bit funny. Pegg and Frost have had their fifteen minutes and could learn a lot from Psychoville.

then you obviously dont get the humour, if you did you would like it. frost and pegg havent had there 15mins, practically everything theyve done withth eexception of theodd thing has been funny and great. not everything will be a masterpiece (which psychoville also insnt) but its still a talented piece of entertainment.

those who dont like hot fuzs or shawn either cant relate to it in which case you lose 50% of the humour or they dont understand it either through intelligence or the fact the unfamiliar with it

Hyperdrive? How to Lose Friends? Guess I'm just not that bright.

i said the majority of what those they have done was good, not all, i consider those 2 plus run fatboy run to be the worst stuff theyve done, but spaced, shaun, fuzz, paul are great comedies

Considering I have been professionally tested and scored significantly above average IQ, I'd say it had nothing to do with my intelligence. I'm allowed to not like things. I didn't find the British version of the Office to be very interesting. I like the American version because I live a couple hours away from Scranton, and enjoy the cultural references on the show.

reply

yeah of course you have

reply

I assume you're British. In the U.S., a lot of teens get tested from elementary school through high school when they demonstrate issues with ADD. Yes, I was professionally tested in high school.

reply

I find those movies funny, but what a load of BS. are you insulted in some way when someone doesn't like what you find funny? because you really can't believe it's impossible to "get it" and not find it funny.

reply

It's gut-bustingly creepy/smart. Good times.

I'm Dutch. May I enjoy it as well? :D

The reason I said Americans or Canadians is because I assume Psychoville isn't broadcasted in the U.S. and Canada. I think there might be BBC America, but I dont know if Psychoville is shown. I DL it online. Btw, League of Gentlemen is absolutely hilarious. My favorites so far are Local Shop and Job Centre.

reply

why do americans struggle so much with accents especially those that arnt difficult to understand no one in psychoville has a particulrly strong accent, id say the only accents that can be hard to understand are very very strong country accents or very very strong irish or scottish accents but thats only the realy thick accents but the others arnt hard to understand, i think its more a problem with the terms and slang used

reply

It's probably tricky to understand when David mumbles, etc.

It's incredibly patronising to say someone may not be intelligent enough to understand certain humour. As the man replied, he is allowed to not like something. There are many shows I don't find funny, just because they don't play to my sense of humour, that's all.
The League of Gentlemen - yes, in a league of its own! I agree with the other correspondent, that the funniest characters are the ones in the local shop, and Pauline in the job centre. Way ahead of its time when it came out in the late 90s.

I'm from the USA and so love this show it's a total riot lol ! I look forward to watching it on the FEARNET Channel every Tuesday night . There is a mini marathon on FEARNET today that I'm watching right now too . Thanks jPoDTGN for your subject post .

I'm loving this show too! I watch a lot of Brit shows and I'm glad FEARNET imported this one stateside. It's a total riot - I tend to get sucked into wikipedia-ing serial killers, so David and his mom are total gems in my book.

I'd like to say my peace about accents: it's frustrating as an American to have fellow imdb-ers patronize us "idiots" for not being able to understand some of the different accents featured on your fine programs. Newsflash - it's not just Brits I have difficulty understanding some times. There were rednecks in North Carolina where I used to vacation that I could barely understand and they're in my own country (and allegedly speaking English). I lived in New Zealand for a bit and I never had a single problem understanding anyone except for a single incident in which a friend was giving directions to his house and it sounded like COMPLETE gibberish. And my two other equally competent American companions couldn't translate it either. I don't think it has anything to do with intelligence and competency. You're just going to deal with the fact that all of our accents are funny and we have no idea what we're saying to each other sometimes.

Actually, I was a little bit of snob myself because I don't have a problem understanding the accents and when my friends would say, "What?" I'd be like, "Uhh, DUH." But then when I watched the Red Riding Trilogy, I decided to stop being a dick because half the time I was like "What the f^ck are they saying?!?!"

A severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer.

I'm American and I love the show. Loved the Tony Hancock reference.
