Americans do not appreciate...

British humour.
Us Brits find sarcasm funny, and laugh at dark humour. Unfortunately, most Americans do not seem to appreciate this, preferring 'hyper' stuff instead, where the actors make obvious jokes or just act stupid. Psychoville is darkly humourous, and the acting is great seeing as it is a sketch show. Americans should stick to their own comedy if they don't like ours.

I'd argue they're better at drama, though.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

Blanket generalisations towards Americans on yet another British programme's message board... what a shocker.

What next, if an American comes here and uses the word "season" instead of "series," you'll throw a fit about using the correct term?

I'm American and I know the difference between our cultures in movies and TV. We like things that make us dream and see no limits, you like things more realistic and reflecting of society (The Hour vs. Newsroom). Just watching American Horror Story: Asylum and this showcases it all. Just so you know no one in our country walks around in public looking like the woman in the first scene of AMH:A . Hollywood and New York City is not reflective of what the rest of America looks like.

Now let's beat up that OLD Basterd George Carlin, he'd appreciate it!

That's Bull, I'm american and I prefer alot of British Shows to American one. Skins/Psychoville/Misfits I could go on, but it's pointless. I like more of the old American TV shows.

That's ridiculous! I'm American and love British humor. Afterall, I'm on this site trying to find out how to see "Psychoville".

I'm an American and I love Psychoville. Watched the entire season on Fear Net On Demand. Then went and bought the set online. I loved this show, I was pissed when they cancelled it.

This is absolute rubbish. As a British guy living in America who frequents comedy clubs (occasionally performing myself), I can tell you that Americans are just as open to sarcasm and dark humour, and refreshingly they're not all copying Russell Brand or Frankie Boyle like they are in the UK. Besides, it's the British who seem to complain the most about dark humour at the moment.

Still, tell me any comedy series currently on British TV that comes close to rivalling 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' (far darker than 'Psychoville' at times), 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' or 'South Park', all hugely popular shows in the states. And you're acting as if 'Psychoville' is hard to understand - it's not, it's very simple comedy done very well.

These bastards!

BS.

Many Americans do find sarcasm funny and like dark humor. Obviously, we're a big country. With 300 million+ people there's an audience for all kinds of humor.

For example, on PBS (our public broadcast station), British comedies have been among the highest rated shows for a couple decades.
