Katzenberg's statements and the future of the KFP series

Reading Katzenberg's tone in this news story (http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/thanks-kung-fu-panda-2-dreamworks-animations-q2-stronger-expected-29472), "I think we had a terrible, terrible calamity in the U.S. and it’s heartbreaking because there’s no recovering from it,” sounds disturbing and unfair considering how well the film has done internationally and DW income has increased over its last financial report.

What do you think? How bad does this say for the chances of seeing more of KFP films?

He said the main reason for that was because Kung Fu Panda 2 was released at the same time as Hangover 2, so these were both highly anticipated sequels. Luckily it was successful overseas so they can continue the story arc, but they have to be more careful in the future of when they release it.

Still, the gross in the United States and Canda is pretty mediocre, considering the success of the first movie. I mean, Brandon Gray of boxofficemojo thought that it could make $285 million in the USA and Canada alone, and now it looks like it would be a miracle if it passed $170 million domestically. Even the overseas gross isn't overwhelming, considering some early predictions.

Still, I think a Kung Fu Panda 3 in the future is a safe bet.

I wouldn't say it's mediocre. It's probably one of the most successful series from Dreamworks. The company simply has had a bad run. I don't see blaming the release coinciding with Hangover 2 as much of an excuse either. I preferred the 1st to the 2nd movie and paid no attention to the hype. Sometimes there is too much hype and that sorta puts me off watching something.
