shareIt has made over $661 Million World Wide!!!! It has passed the original!!!!
shareBut it sucks so hard that the *beep* robot movie is going to earn so much more. The film going crowd is still majoritarily retarded.
shareIm just happy this movie is a financial and critical hit!
shareMe too. Who cares if transformers did in one weekend what this grossed? They are two diff kinda movies- one made for the masses (robots) and one directed at families. I think this did good for a family movie.

Now its at $536,477,005

The domestic one is updated daily at Box office Mojo and is heading to $161 million.
Plus, i'm happy for the director; the highest selling movie ever directed by a female? Wow, take that, Kathryn Bigelow.
Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. - Mr Glass (from one of the best films ever made!)
I'm sorry you had to say such a elitest comment to prove your liking for this movie.

It still has to open in Japan(a VERY big market), Italy (big market), and New Zealand (small market) in August.
$563,009,000 World Wide!!!!
And it has finally beat The Hangover Part II!!!
"It still has to open in Japan(a VERY big market), Italy (big market), and New Zealand (small market) in August."
It opened here (New Zealand) last Thursday (July 7).

Apparently the Denmark and Hong Kong numbers aren't in yet...plus there's still Italy and Japan opening next month. With another 2-3 mil domestic, I think 600 mil will surely be hit.
It will make at least 20 million in Japan alone. I agree 600 million is a surety at this point. Will be very interesting to see how it does.

Considering that KFP2 made $91 million in China alone and $40 million in South Korea, it wouldn't be to far off to estimate that the movie will gross at least $50 million in Japan pushing the total WW gross to well over $600 million. The question now is, will it be able to surpass the original KFP WW gross ($627 million)?
While Japan is a big market don't expect too much out of them...the first KFP only made 16 mil. Plus opening so late most people would've probably seen it through HQ downloads.
I guess KFP's humor is too slapstick for them. Hopefully the depth and emotion of this film will give them a Miyazaki impression, who's films never break a sweat to make 150-200 mil over there.
Updated Worldwide gross: $568,255,193
Awesome!

If only it wouldn't have disappointed so much in domestic boxoffice, this would have easily made over 700 million worldwide.
Thats what you get when you release it on the same day THE HANGOVER PART II was released and second weeekend of the billion dollar hit Pirates 4.
shareIT FINALLY DID IT!!!
$603,566,903
Yep, and still with japan, italy, and indenesia to open in. This will surely pass KFP's 631M WW total once it does.
shareFinally! It's great!

YAY!
shareAbout to pass 610 Million World Wide!!!
shareWoah, you're right... $609,178,000 World Wide, yeah!
sharePASSED 610 Million!
Worldwide: $610,473,043
It has to make 20 million till it has reached the prequel (worldwide). In a few weeks it will open in Italy and Japan, so it it possible that it surpasses Kung Fu Panda.

That's just weak songwriting. You wrote a bad song, Petey.
Possible? It's practically locked to happen at this point.
shareIs it possible that it'll surpass a billion after dvd sales?

14 August Update: Worldwide:$616,428,000
Japan Opening - 19 August
Italy Opening - 24 August
Sweet hopefully with there help it will pass 630 Million World Wide.
shareI expect Japan and Italy to take it's final tally to $640M. We're good for four more movies...
If it has an epic, conclusive end, then $1B for the final movie is hardly a stretch.
$622,943,000 Worldwide now on Boxofficemojo.com... And the gross from Italy and Japan are not even added yet!
HELL YEAH.
Seen this movie yesterday again btw. Still awesome and the best movie of the year so far.
Sweet! Only 9 Million more to match the original! Once Japan and Italy grosses are added, I say it will pass the original!
shareGreat!

Now at 625 Million World Wide
share
Now at 625 Million World Wide.....And yet I keep coming across not quite a few articles and analyses that the movie is a boxoffice disappointment while at the same time proclaiming the following movies as big boxoffice hits:
.
The Hangover Part II = Worldwide: $581,236,410
Captain America - Worldwide: $316,689,825
The Smurfs - Worldwide: $332,593,468 (still on worldwide release)
Rise of the Planet of The Apes - Worldwide: $262,506,277 (still on worldwide release)
.
Is there a conspiracy to put down Kung Fu Panda 2 as a failure?
Domestically it is a disappointment...it should've made well over 200 mil. Worldwide it is a mega hit.
share
Domestically, Avatar, Inception, Alice in Wonderland are disappointments as they didn't even double up the production costs with their respective domestic gross. Leonardo Dicaprio and Christopher Nolan wouldn't have made $70 million last year if not for the WW gross; James Cameron's $300 million take from Avatar came only from the WW gross; with the domestic gross he would have gotten nothing except the standard director's fee.
Worldwide: $637,562,000

Just passed the first movie's final worldwide total and still has a bit of life left. $650M could be in play. Awesome.
