I liked the orignal but i gotta say this one surprised me and was a really enjoyable film. its a rare case where the sequel is better than the original

I agree this one is better than the original, but the first is still very good. I really enjoyed the use of hand drawn animation in this flick and the more dark themes.

No pop culture jokes or silly modern witticisms in this one ; the movie relied exclusively on the strength of its own narrative.
I dislike most modern animated movies because they rely on the tired Shrek formula :
- tell a crap story for the kiddies
- inject a lot of "adult" jokes for the bored parents
KFP1 relied on this formula to some extent, though not too much.
But KFP2 was different.
It was entirely story and character driven ; as a result I felt children and parents could enjoy the film on the same level.
I think it takes quite a bit of confidence to do that, because it's not easy to make a simple, aimed-at-children story exciting for grown ups.
But this was so well made.
I agree with the poster who said the furious five were in Po's shadow. Except for Tigress (maybe Angelina Jolie seduced so she could a few lines?) But honestly, you don't just get Jackie Chan and Seth Rogen and David Cross and the chick from Charlie's Angels and do NOTHING with them! And, the totally wasted Jean Cluade Notre Dame and Dennis Hayberts on Master Croc and Master Ox.
I mean really....they coulda done something with these people.:(

shareI gotta say, this was absolutely wonderful! The only reason I can't give it a 10 is because nothing can equal Toy Story 3 in the animation sect of movies. But it's a really close 2nd (original Toy Story is tied for first).

This movie was beautifully done, but it suffered from the same problem that other films have this summer--the perception that only children will come see it. Adults aren't that entertained by motion and action.

The ending confused me a bit - are both Po's parents still alive then? I assume Po was left in the radish basket by his mum to protect him.
After Po's mom had put him in the radish basket we can see her being chased by 2 wolves and Lord Shen. However, it is not revealed if she survived or not, although to me it seems very likely that she was killed. I think for the answer we have to wait for Kung Fu Panda 3.

The first one is the better one in my opinion but the second one is very close behind. Story and character-wise it was strong with Po, Mr. Ping, Shen, and Tigress because they were the main players whereas Shifu and the rest of the Five were more secondary, it makes sense if you think about it. I was a little disappointed with Shen the first time I saw the movie because his reasoning seemed a bit muddled and confusing and he felt kind of like a Saturday morning cartoon villain but I sensed a little more depth the second time I saw it. I think Shen's threatening on a psychological level while Tai Lung was more threatening in a physical presence. The first movie felt more tied together and complete with fuller characters (I completely forgot about the Tigress/Tai Lung Parallel until now) but I think Kung Fu Panda 2 is still a pretty top notch job. The directore of this one was story supervisor and animated the opening for the first movie and it being her first movie is quite impressive. I can see why people think the second isn't as good as the first but I still think the second is still very good. The director of the second just needs a little more practice is all.
