Brilliant film, but worth spending all that money on hollywood stars?

(excluding the severely awesome jack black!) Why did they bother hiring all those hollywood type stars to voice so few lines? I really don't get it, theres SO MANY talented voice actors out there, who could do a much better job anyway, to blow half your budget on all these star names, simply so they had their names on the poster, I don't think it drew anymore people to the box office.

Next time save the money and use it on the film!

I doubt having Hollywood stars in the cast doesn't help the film.

And I don't get this complaint from people. Why can't big celebrities have small parts? What's the problem with that?

reply

Mainly because large names come with large paychecks and the idea that they were only given the part for name recognition, when a less recognized actor could fit the role as well for a fraction of the price. All this does is raise the cost and the price of the films unnecessarily IMO. Not that this is is always the case, but its hard not to think that A-listers in bit voice parts are simply whoring out their fame.

reply

But how do you know it raises the cost unnecessarily? Again, I doubt big names don't help promote movies. And I don't see anything wrong with that in of itself.

I also think all the celebrities did a nice job with their roles. I like being surprised when I read a movie's credits and see a name I didn't recognize before. "That was so and so? Oh cool". But that's just me.

Considering how brilliantly and soulfully Hoffman played Shifu in KFP 1 in an Annie winning performance and his coaching of Jack Black to help the comedian make Po his finest role, that alone justifies the big name in that franchise.

reply

I dont think he's talking about Hoffman. More like how Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan, and David Cross have about 3 lines each.

Rogen got more lines this time, which was good. And Jolie became more of a main character.

Hopefully the rest of the Five will get more lines and development in the future.

reply

I agree with you there about better voice talent out there.

A good movie will have all of its characters important. Sure, with animated movies they can voice people who mostly do the voices, but then again the big names never hurt for movies like these.
