It will definitely be nominated, but I have neither seen "Cars 2" nor "Rango". For those of you who did - will "Kung Fu Panda 2" win the oscar for best animated feature? Do you think it has a good chance?
I'd really be happy about that. I can totally see it winning.
Between the currently released animated movies this year, it should be between Rango and KFP2, though the former seems to have a greater shot at it. Cars 2 wont even be nominated.

I disagree. I think a Kung Fu Panda 2 win is more likely than a Rango win. But yeah, those are the two front-runners.

It's well known that a Golden Globe nomination doesn't really mean anything. Sometimes, movies win categories at the oscars that they weren't even nominated for at the golden globes.
That being said, the nominations in this category are ridiculous. Come one, Cars 2 and Puss in Boots but not KFP2? That's just stupid.
I've seen Cars 2, and I only caught the last 20 minutes of Rango. I can't truly judge the latter since I've seen so little of it and didn't understand it, but it was odd. And Cars 2 has no chance of winning, unfortunately for Pixar. I really think KFP2 could win, although there is still Happy Feet 2. But honestly, I'm not expecting it to be that good, and my bets are all on Panda.
Jeez, it's Pandas vs. Chameleons vs. Penguins??
And does Winnie the Pooh even count? I still haven't seen it. It looks good, but it's only an hour long, there may be a running time rule for awards like this.

Animated movies must have a running time of more than 40 minutes in order to be eligible for Oscar. So that shouldn't be a problem. --- That's just weak songwriting. You wrote a bad song, Petey.

Panda to me seems like the strongest animated film of the year so far. And I wouldn't be surprised if it won. Cars2 was entertaining, but not that great. Rango was good, but to quirky for my taste and I thought it was trying to hard. Winnie the Pooh is great, my second favorite this year, but I think the academy will snub it because it isn't a complex movie like Up or Wall-E.
'Rango' to Receive Animation Award at 15th annual Hollywood Film Awards
I have learned that Gore Verbinski's Rango -- an animated film from Paramount that was released in May, has made nearly $250 billion internationally, and features the voices of Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, and Timothy Olyphant -- has been chosen to receive this year's Hollywood Animation Award at the 15th annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards, the first awards show of the Oscar season, at a gala ceremony on October 24, 2011, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Several previous recipients of this honor went on to win the best animated feature Oscar, including its four most recent winners, Ratatouille (2007), Wall-E (2008), Up (2009), and Toy Story 3 (2010).
Carlos de Abreu, the Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Festival, said, "It is a great pleasure to recognize Rango as the recipient of our animation award. This piece of cinematic treasure borders on surrealism and Rango will be a classic for generations to come."
As far as what all of the animated movies this year are, there's the following:
Arthur Christmas Cars 2 Gnomeo and Juliet Happy Feet Two Hoodwinked Too!: Hood Vs Evil Kung Fu Panda 2 Mars Needs Moms A Monster in Paris Puss in Boots Rango Rio Winnie the Pooh
Take away the obvious choices that will not be nominated and we got:
Happy Feet Two Kung Fu Panda 2 A Monster in Paris Rango Winnie the Pooh
Those would be the nominees if this is a 5 nominee category. If it's a 3 nominee category, I predict this:
