Shen most likely traveled to Africa during his exile and brought back the gorillas. Note that he also had rhino and hyena minions, which are also native to Africa.

There are rhinos in China actually. And those were wolves, not hyenas. ;)

I would like to point out that this is a world were Animals travel on boats. Some of them have obviously traveled the world. As others have pointed out there are other animals that aren't native to China. It is entirely possible that the gorilla's could be traveling mercenaries, or that Shen found them and recruited them as he went around the world researching gunpowder.

there are no wolves in asia either. shen's other muscle. those are american animals. its a movie watch it and be entertained, stop analyzing it.

Its amazing what people think does not exist in Asia.

Rhinos : Found in India and China
Crocodiles : Found in China and India and many other countries
Wolves : Found all over Asia

Also maybe the Gorillas were really dirty yetis? :P
