Teardrops in my eyes. (SPOILER)

The animations of baby PO were so vivid and beautifully made. When PO's mother left him in the woods and she eased him and eventually left, i was so moved. The crying of the baby panda created teardrops in my eyes and that rarely happens in movies for me (especially not animation).

You might call me a pussy, because i'm 18 y/old and a guy, but who else experienced the same?

reply

I'm 18 and a guy, and I cried there too.

I'm a 20 year old guy, and I admit I choked up as well. Nobody can blame us, really. It was truly a moving, tragic scene. :'(

Sh*t I'm 24, and I'm on my way to the zoo to steal one damn cute baby panda! . Or maybe I can buy one for my girlfriend's birthday. Or better still, propose with the panda sporting the wedding ring. Or not.

Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. - Mr Glass (from one of the best films ever made!)

Same here man lol. This movie was wayyyy better than I expected it to be o.o

20 year old girl, and it definitely stirred emotions in me... the "montage" brought my tears out.

41-year old man and had to tear a napkin in two to share with my nephew.

I dont cry easily at movies, but that scene definetely got me misty eyed. It was a very moving scene.

I surely was not expecting to be touched by a Dreamworks movie so much... This scene was just incredible. I was fighting not to cry when the mother leaves him, but when they showed the happy memories of Po... I just lost it.

Amazing movie...

Kung fu panda and how to train your dragon are the only two dremaworks production that are actually up to pixar standards. Not counting wallace and gromit because it was aardman.

reply

I cried too, all the way through. Terrific film.

I'm not sure if anyone else would go this far, but I think that scene is one of the best animated scenes in the history of animation. It was deeply moving, emotional, got us to care much more about a character we already love, and it was expertly crafted on a film making standpoint. The way that the 2D animation intertwined with Po achieving inner peace was done so perfectly and that one bit just got the tears rollin'. The entire scene as a whole including the montage was just beautiful. This was truly the first year in which Pixar got beaten out by Dreamworks and by a landslide. It's a wonderful movie and that scene is one of the big reasons why.

For deeply emotional animated scenes, you don't get better that the first 15 minutes of Up.

I couldn't quite believe I was watching a kids movie.

"A bee bit my bottom. Now my bottom's big."

reply

Actually, I agree with this. I cried so hard when I saw that. Baby Po was the second, and HTTYD was the third, but not by much!

I've had the noodle dream. Did you have the noodle dream too?

reply

I actually found the later scene in up when he finds her scrap book far more moving. I actually teared up a bit just thinking about it.
Don't get me wrong the beginning was very moving and brought a tear to my eye but I fully cried when he finally realises he hadn't stopped her from living her dream and had instead been the focus and source of happiness of her entire life.
I have only cried at 4 movies that I can remember, Up, Green Mile, Bicentennial Man and AI. And oddly one TV episode, Jurassic Bark in Futurama. I still cant watch any of the above unless I'm on my own, its not a pretty sight lol.

The Scene in KFP2 is also very moving and beautifully done it just didn't push me past the misty eyed stage.

reply

I agree 100%. I believe this is the best scene Dreamworks ever did, and it's also one of the best animated sequences ever. The 2D images don't just show that the "old technique" still has its place nowadays, it also makes the scene very artistic and somehow poetic. The combination with the raindrop and the "Inner Peace" thing was absolutely brilliant of course.

You should also note that the MUSIC by Hans Zimmer and John Powell is incredible!

I am right with you Ezra. Your post embodies my sentiments almost to a "T"

I cried too, and I'm 26 years old! I do admit, I get teary-eyed pretty easily, but this one hit me really hard. The whole theme with the adoption, because I'm adopted too.
I felt so bad for Po's dad when he comes to wish him a good trip, and Po is kind of cold. The dad has packed food and has pictures and you can really feel how much he loves Po. And when Tigress says something like: "Don't worry, he'll be back before you can say noodles" and he watches them leave and quietly says "Noodles..."

I have ever tried on two animated films in my life. The life fast forward in UP and the scene you just described.

Beautiful, beautiful sequence, and such a heatbreaker. I didn't expect to be as moved as I was by Po's childhood memories. Actually had to choke back sobs. And you know what? Not ashamed of it at all. :)
