Next Villain Should Be: Female

As most movies have shown over the years - whether live-action or animated - there would usually be a villain of sorts that would stop at nothing to succeed in getting what they want and stopping/eliminating those who stand in their way.

Now, for the next Kung Fu Panda (#3), the next villain should be female. Why? Because there have been many villains that were cunning, ruthless, or even manipulative, but they were mostly guys, for it being a woman, that would change everything in the 3rd film (mainly for Po).

Does Po even have the nerve to strike a woman? And since the setting is in China, there has been some beliefs (in real-life) that a man shouldn't hit a woman and the Chinese culture looks toward that.

As for what type of animal? I'm leaving that open to anybody.

reply

A komodo dragon would make a cool female villain. Like a kung fu sorceress or something. That would be fun to watch.

reply

Yeah. Po has fought a snow leopard and a peacock, but they were both male.

Would Po finally meet his match against a female villain? Can he even hit a girl? Maybe he'll use Tigress for this one?

reply

Females are regarded as being physically weak, certainly no match for a male. A female martial arts villain just wouldnt be intimidating enough,

Thats why you dont have them as main villains in any martial arts films, people cant take it seriously, if a man loses to a girl in the film then hes gonna look like a wuss no matter how powerful she is, but if he wins then congrats he just beat up a girl.

reply

Point taken. There should be at least 1 female villain in the Kung Fu Panda franchise, look what they did to Dreamworks' other film "Shrek 2," for example the Fairy Godmother. It was a hit to audiences and critics alike.

The bottom line is that the studio shouldn't restrict the role of a villain to only men, even women should get that equal amount.

Heck, I'm a guy that learned a lot at a Women's Studies class and it started to open my mind to new ideas.

reply

Women can be strong, and if written properly she can impose threats beyond imagination. Just look at Maleficent, she was a perfect villain.

"You give my regards to St. Peter or whoever has his job... but in Hell."

reply

Maleficent was strong in a different way, she was intimidating like how the Emperor from Star Wars was. It needs somebody physically strong and intimidating like Ivan Drago was because he towered over Rocky or Tai Lung because he was a ferocious looking animal. Besides fighting is a boys thing it makes sense theyre usually always males, there were pretty much no female fighters in Dragonball Z, same reason. They should have a main villain be a male then have a hench woman who can fight Tigress, thats how it usually goes.

reply

I think a female villain would work just fine. There have already been the Wu sisters from the kung fu panda "Secrets of the masters". They were quite deadly.

If anybody here has watched "Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness" there have already been THREE female villains. Fenghuang the owl, Su the clouded leopard and Scorpion the...you know. Su might have been just a common theif, but the other two were a major threat to the Valley. Scorpion could use mind control, turning even Kung fu masters against one another and Fenghuang was so strong, she was on par with even Oogway (easily making her stronger than Tai Lung).

So anyways, a female villain would work just fine. And if that isn't enough proof, just look at Viper and Tigress. They're pretty skilled as is. The next villain may not be female, but we have four more movies to look forward to.

reply

Come to think of it, of the few audiences who saw the spin-off adventure "Legends of Awesomeness," those villains were indeed female, but a main villain for the upcoming 3rd film would prove that Dreamworks can come up with a crafty character (that doesn't have to lean toward male/female solidarity) and can be just as good as the male counterparts.

In general, it's true that in society, they do see that men are dominant, while the women support their own cause. That would be the norm. However, it couldn't hurt to reverse that norm more often in animated films like "Kung Fu Panda."

reply

I agree, a female villain wouldn't be as intimidating.
They should stick to guys, although I have to admit that a female komodo dragon villain sounds interesting.
BUT, I enjoy guy villains better.
Not trying to be sexist or something (I'm a girl, but I don't think girl villains are scary) - it's just my opinion.

reply

What about Zira from Lion King II? she was scary and Insane.. not worse than Scar but she was a cool villaness.. and Sabor the Leopard from Tarzan (yes, she's a girl was hella scary..)

though I hope they don't use Tai Lung's sister/cousin for the next one if there has to be a female villian..

I know there's more Viallaness animals.. but I'm brain dead right now. :p

EDIT: oh and there was Madame Mousey ( a poodle) from American Tail mystery of the Night Monster but Zira was cooler .. and had a better name..

Fun Fact.. Zira's name was originally named Bianca! LOL..

reply

Yeah. The Lion King II did have Zira as an insane and cunning villainess. That and a couple other female villains in Disney animation history were really great and are as good as their male counterparts.

Dreamworks needs to lean toward that direction.

A completely new animal must take on the role of the female villain. It would feel repetitive if it's a snow leopard again, not to mention people might compare it unfavorably to Tai Lung. As the last user had mentioned, a Komodo Dragon just might work... as long as the story blends well with it.

reply

it would be neat to see po fighting a female villain, to show that men and women are equal .

reply

EXACTLY what I THOUGHT!! We think alike, colt45joe.

Dreamworks should not dive down into sexist remarks. They need to prove that villains don't always have to be male. That way the role of the villain won't be typecasted strictly for men, women can have their own shot at the position, it just depends on how well they can write it into the film's story.

reply

Okay...all these people who are saying a female villain wouldn't work because women are weaker than males...three things:

1. That is an incredibly sexist comment in itself.

2. Are you forgetting that Tigress and Viper, who are BOTH female, are two of the members of the Furious Five, and are therefore kung fu masters? Tigress is even considered the toughest and strongest member of the Furious Five, and yet she is female.

3. Speaking of Tigress and Viper, Shifu doesn't seem to be the type of man that considers a woman the weaker sex. Oogway seems to be even less so, and I'm sure he, like Shifu, has taught many female students to be masters of kung fu.

As far as the idea for a female villain in KFP, I think it's a great idea. I think the Wu Sisters would be great for any of the remaining four KFP movies yet to come.

reply

Dan_the_Man_88, you took the words RIGHT OUT of my mouth.

That is a well-thought observation, man.

Ever since I started this topic thread, I've been getting a couple sexist comments and very small positive feedback of having a female villain. It's time for Dreamworks to stop dragging their feet and start showing that even in the universe that is Kung Fu Panda, the villain can be a woman, not just always men!

It's pretty clear that Tigress and Viper are the only female fighters under Shifu. If the film team can create a woman, for example, that's as formidable as Tigress, then maybe we can see how cunning such a female villain can be.

I don't really see which gender is powerful than the other, all I see is that both sides are getting their fair share of roles that shouldn't be viewed as sexist. Heck, both women and men usually get typecasted in the movie industry, but there's nothing wrong with reversing typecasted roles now and then.

reply

exactly, that's like saying a "fat" guy can't get his own movie.. ( Po isn't really fat . he's actually the right weight for a Panda.. but heck. Shrek got his own movie. and he ain't Prince Charming if ya know what I mean :)...

but yeah, I would love to see a Female Villian equivalent or better at Kung Fu Than Tigress or Viper. don't care what species it is.. (just not human :))

though I'm still amused by the Kung fu Radish :)

reply

The next villain should be the owl villain from the series, Fenghuang. Her voice actor Wendie Malick is really funny and they made the character cool in the show. She is another bird character but not the same sense as Shen in character.

Orcas are the best.

reply

Orca-Lover. It may take a while for the crew at Dreamworks Animation to comply (or even acknowledge) that they INDEED need a villain that can be female.

I still have high hopes that they can pull one off at some point!

Your idea on the owl villain. Can she be as good as past villains Tai Lung or Lord Shen?

reply

She's in the tv show. http://kungfupanda.wikia.com/wiki/Fenghuang

Orcas are the best.

reply

In the extra animation that came in this movie's video release. There was a story about master Croc and the others fighting a trio of females which were quite intimidating for the heroic trio.

Guess there really are people who act worse than 12 year olds.

Kung fu Panda is not bound by physicality at all. Choose the right animal and she could be larger then Po. I mean for goodness sake the last villain was a peacock. On paper that doesn't sound intimidating at all but he worked.

And anyway the real danger comes from the ruthlessness and craftiness and if they get that right then anything's possible.

And Tigress was really starting to bond with Po in the last movie and I think they were hinting at something more for the third part. Another female could certainly create a rift between the team more subtly then an out and out villain could.

reply

Well a female Dragon,The National symbol of China would be a great Villiness

Oh GOOD!,my dog found the chainsaw

reply

Should be a Panda like someone said on here once.
Po's father , forgot the user who mentioned it but was a really good ideal.
I would hope if they made a 4th film then multiple villains can be used.Like an evil version of the furious five.

She made me do it.....
