Did Disney want to have a stereo typical accent for an Asian character?

Totally not trolling. Just stating a fact. Yen speaks perfect English in interviews but in rogue one he's got the Asian accent.

It's a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away so I'm not sure that is an "Asian" accent

Would you think the same way if it was about a british, german or aussie accent? You know, some actors can switch accent on and off. Its called acting.
