I agree. She's there as eye-candy (oh wow Xander can catch an Indian girl) rather than on merit and of course to fool Indians into seeing the film.

She's best in drama - most unconvincing in action roles (she was good in the dramatic parts of her last movie but her action parts were farcical).

Also, look at the costume. Oh God, if you wanted R-rated then do so and cut the crap but don't tell me she's to be taken seriously as a huntress wearing what looks like a go-go dancer's outfit.

Deepika kicked ass in Chandni Chowk to China film.
I hope to meet her at her hotel.

To be honest she has been known to throw tantrums in India and I mean tantrums. She's making a good impression and that is positive. I just am "meh" about the whole casting her thing. She is not an action star and they've managed to make her costume laughable - an S&M convention or a serious practical outfit ?

Absolutely correct on every point.

She's done some good drama recently provided there is a good director and a good powerful co-star. Keep her ego etc under control (same for that other overhyped entity Priyanka).

Asia Argento was very good. I didn't care for the xXx movies but that's me. What I can say, this one looks like a farce - sexist, stereotyped, over the top joke.

I can understand. I like my action less OTT but that is personal taste. Give me a solid realistic war movie any day.

Mind you, imagine in Hritik Roshan and Vin Diesel ever teamed up ? Roshan does his own stunts and is no stranger to real action (the action in "Bang Bang" was good if everything else wasn't). Can't see it happening though. I can't ever see Hollywood casting an Indian male in an action role no matter how good they are.

Most of the offers are for extreme negative roles - terrorists. Dev Patel made a comment once "Hollywood only wants Indian men as cab drivers or terrorists".

Hritik Roshan is a fine actor who made some bad choices - I quite liked the action in Bang Bang.

The Hollywood market in India is very small. Only two films did well last year. Look at the Box Office returns.Jurassic World (because of the dinosaurs) and F7 (cars). Both movies were pretty dumb.

I know you are a Vin Diesel fan but I am not so we won't agree too much. Diesel can't act and the action is way OTT for my tastes and the women are really just eye candy.

If he has the budget it would be fine. Actually that is Bollywood's No.1 problem. They have hell getting loans from banks (unlike Hollywood) and that is why the underworld was so involved (I will not comment more than to say rumours of a certain SRK, PC and DP being involved in dealings with the underworld are not uncommon).

Devgn is talented - Stallone called him the Indian Rambo when Singham Returns went up against Expendables 3 and cleaned its clock at the box office.

One of the co-stars in Shivaay - Robert Masser was a MiG-29 pilot in the old East German air force which is really interesting.

I am looking forward to Mohenjo Daro as well just to see the visuals.

Outside certain genres Bollywood is safe.

One of this year's Oscar winners for VFX - Rahul Thakkar - indicated that Indian VFX are good and he's right. The problem is money for refining them and getting it right.

When you get down to it, the OTT action in Hollywood blockbusters is no more OTT than in Bollywood films but they can have more cars, more explosions etc etc.

If you look at Indian independent cinema (some even funded by people like Karan Johar) you will find, because they don't need big budgets, some absolutely incredible work that is internationally critically acclaimed and winning awards at prestigious film festivals.

Between us, both movies will be fun but very dumb at best. I'm never impressed with them. I actually miss Rambo now ! BTW - they are making it an Indian franchise ! It could be good if well done. I preferred the car chase scenes in old movies like the French Connection. Shows my age I guess. Ah well, shame if we all liked the same stuff.

Always remember, Hollywood has no real time for an Indian or Asian man in any positive role even M. Night Shyamalan was disrespected after one or two hiccups.

Deepika will do great in action roles in Hollywood. She needs to do more action movies in Bollyuwood too.

reply

Who the F u think u are? some superstar director? Why u gotta be so negative about a female actress. Clearly she was chosen because of her good acting. Don't judge before the movie is even released. Stupid.

women are just eye candy? what the hell is wrong with you? You have not seen good movies in your life then.

If an action film is aimed at a male audience, that does not make it sexist. Just as there are female-oriented films such as Twilight. This century is such a whiny time seriously. Left and right morons looking for an excuse to wave a "racist" or "sexist" flag. Stop bein such a pussy, present, no offense but ah *beep* right everything is offensive now. Well have a middle finger to go with it then :)

Edit: Awww I should've quoted... oh well. Way to go, "poster-that-deleted-all-their-posts", that's the way you save face! :)

The people in India who watch Hollywood movies regularly and witnessing what filmmaking is actually like have utter dislike for Bollywood movies as well as Indian actors so whenever u read that they have huge following and many people are excited about their foray into Hollywood is just because they want to see their hypocrisy.for eg in India the actors give statement like i will never strip on camera but they do in western movie in their debut movie so never say these actress are popular and Indians highly anticipate their next movie.

reply

Yes she's awesome I can understand people here talking bad about her and Hollywood movies being dumb when ur blockbuster movies is crap crap crap Bollywood

reply

Saw an advanced screening of the movie. I haven't seen any of her other movies, so I cant compare her performances but she was not all bad given its her first foray into Hollywood But I did feel that she coming from Bollywood could've done a much better job at portraying the chemistry with Vin Diesel. But who cares? Its XXX.. you just go to watch some guys do cool stunts and kick some ass.
