what good does it do to destroy the "device"

they must have blueprints for it and programming code and the developers are most likely alife.

they could build the device on Area 51 tomorrow if they wanted too.

they destroyed a piece of hardware but the design is stored somewhere.

as a computer person I just think that way.
if they wanted it never to be used again they should have destroyed the blueprints.

In these movies it's standard to have the device be so dangerous and amazing they can't risk having too many lying around..

Once the people behind it find out it's got out and it's in play amongst the bad guys they will shut down any current ops connected to it.

But then again it was flimsy and pretty easily smashed..

I'm not going to act like I go to see a movie like this and expect no plot holes. I still found it funny that Toni Collett's character was stealing a device from someone who was literally doing the same thing with it she wanted to do with it.
