How is he both a massive joke, but wildly successful

due to the F&F series alone?
When he first arrived on the scene he had a legitimate intimidating screen presence. He was believable as a movie tough guy. But now, he's kind of scoffed at. Is it because he let himself go? Is it because he never really established himself outside of F&F?

He's made a lot of money off those ridiculous F&F, but yet his career almost feels unfulfilled (as an action star, I mean). He is arguably a complete failure outside of that series.

Maybe it's a sort of Sandler/Shyamalan Syndrome, where an actor/creator has generated a rabid fan base from early successes who just follow him around praising everything he does.

Also, open your mind to me. 😉

That doesn't make any sense. If they praised everything he did, he would have more success. Outside the Fast and Furious series, his movies flop.

He hasn't had many other movies though. Since year 2000, outside of the FF franchise and the Chronicles of Riddick franchise, Vin Diesel has only physically been in 8 movies.

5 of those 8 movies were before 2003.

Even counting voice talents, Vin Diesel has a super thin resume outside of those two franchises, one of which is already dead.

FF is the only thing keeping this guy relevant. If there was ever a one-hit movie star that's milking it, it is Vin Diesel.

that's kind of a part of my point. He has been in movies where he was very believable as an action star – but nobody is knocking with other opportunities.

But I think he really only ever had 3 actions roles, right?

XXX, FF, and Riddick.

Riddick is long dead, the studio is trying to revive XXX, and we all know how FF is doing.

Outside of these, I don't think he was ever a true action star.

Its very simple its the same reason people dont go to arnold an sly films anymore action heros wear out there welcomes when a new generation comes around they are the hero of the past for vin his time was the 90s the reason fast an furious still makes good money is the fact its a team film theres something for everyone but another reason is comic book films have replaced the standered action blockbuster an most honestly dont do well also alot of people on imdb that do the most talking are the film snobs an the hater trolls so obviously they will troll guys like diseal because hes a action guy an alot of film snob people consider action below them or for dumb people

Because he's a big table top rpg player and has a fan base based on that. Those people go to his movies to show their support.

Utah! Get me two.
