I think this guy is so overrated, especially in movies like Fast & Furious... xXx are mediocore too... What you guys think?
shareI think he is in the middle. Not the best, but his look and street smarts make up for it. He is nowhere near the worst, much better than most athletes, models, and comics that try to act.

I thought he was fine in Saving Private Ryan and Boiler Room as a supporting actor.
I don't like the phony macho persona and agree with some others here that his voice is hard to stomach for 2 hours. In small doses, he is good.

shareI don't think he's "overrated" because I don't get the impression he's highly rated, generally speaking, in the first place. Every actor has fans, but who's talking about Vin Diesel like he's A-list?
Can he act? I don't think we really know, because when has he really had to? And maybe he knows that this is all there is, which would explain his career choices. Everything he does is spectacle. I'm fine with spectacle (I actually enjoy the F&F series), but if you're an actor, wouldn't you want to mix things up a bit?
Contrast this to, say, Daniel Radcliffe, a very different actor, but one saddled with a similar problem after Harry Potter. No-one knew if he could do anything but variations on Harry. Instead of taking roles that would magnify his Harry Potterness, he's sought out genuinely strange roles and young directors. With the somewhat diverse resume comes (presumably) more options.
He can still go back to Harry Potter if the opportunity arises in the future. Vin Diesel hasn't shown himself to be capable of playing anything but variations on Vin Diesel.
