Has Stephen King remarked?

On the xtras on the DVD, the director/producer is very straight that they messed up the first time.

He goes on to say that they mailed a copy of the NEW screenplay to King and it was returned by King's attorney , saying they had no interest in reading it (talk about arrogance).

So..anyone know if he's said anything?

I was confused too. The director mentioned that he was using King's original screenplay for the first film ( they re-wrote it) of this as a guideline, so that may be it.

I completely agree with everything MIMIC wrote, except the use of the word 'of' instead of 'have'.

Hey stupid stool, do you know the difference between "of" and "have"?
Idiot!

And they should've used the preacher boy from the beginning of the movie as the main kid in the rest 'cause he was miles better than the little baby they had instead. Couldn't even understand half of what he said. The kid in the beginning was awesome!

I agree the main kid in this film seemed like an annoying buck toothed Haley Joel Osmont.

The movie was soso i thought.

I liked the first preacher kid way more as well. he was also in "let's Go To Prison" so I liked him all the more for that.

Stephen King actually hated the original 1984 adaption of Children of the Corn. I own a book called, "The Films of Stephen King" where they give quotes from King on all the movies that were made of his books thus far and here is what he said about the original Children of the Corn;

"My feeling. . . (for most movies made from his books) is like a guy who sends his daughter off to college. You hope she'll do well. You hope she won't fall in with the wrong people. You hope she won't be raped at a fraternity party, which is pretty well what happened to Children of the Corn."

--From an interview with Stephen King by Craig Modderno, Published in USA Today, May 1995

So, perhaps he didn't want to read the script for this Children of the Corn because he disliked the original so much.

Plus, I think it's absolutely hilarious that Borchers said that the original wasn't good but he actually sat in on the DVD commentary on the 25th Anniversary Edition! Talk about an oxymoron!!

I must read that book. I remember him sending a SCATHING review of the Salem's Lot TV film (version 1.0) to Famous Monsters of Filmland no less, and I hope they have that in there. He really hated that.

To be fair, he's kinda screwed up some of his own adaptions, like Pet Sematary (completely neutered Gage), The Stand (Some of that comes down to casting and story changes forced on him...The Stand should be made into an epic movie series like King and Romero had planned.), and The Shining TV remake (just...no).

Interesting analogy with the daughter to college thing..lol.

The book is pretty old it's from 1993. It's by Ann Lloyd.

As for what it says about Salem's Lot the 1979 version it says:

"The major emotion that went through my mind as I watched [Salem's Lot] was relief. . . " "Most of what television touches within the horror genre turns out to be absolute drivel. I think [producer] Richard Kobritz and Tobe Hooper made Salem's Lot rise well above that. It certainly wasn't typical of horror movies made for television."

So, that definitely not a review for the television version. The book stops at King books made into movies after 1993 when it was published so. But for the most part in the book the quotes from King are taken from other sources (newspapers, magazines, etc) and most of them aren't really that great. He usually dislikes most of the movies and t.v. miniseries made from his work it seems.

Then he either changed his mind or was being politically correct on that quote, because the Famous Monsters rant he went on was a full back page bashing of the Tobe Hooper version. I wish I could recall the issue, as I no longer have any. If I knew the issue I could find it on eBay prob. But he went off.

Hmm, that's actually quite interesting. That would be kind of awesome to find and read. That quote above actually didn't have any periodical or anything sited so I'm not sure where he quoted that.
