The first one was released in the '80s. Great child stars ran rampant then.

Agreed. Although I had to look his age up, just to make sure (it is a movie about children, after all). Turns out he's older then me though o_0.
But seriously. I'm not sure if his attractiveness actually detracts from the movie. The guy in the original was pretty fugly, but at least it helped to lend a sense of creepiness to it.
Yeah, when he comes on screen, I just look at him. BTW, hahaha talking dead Vickie. Even dead she doesn't shut the f up.

I totally agree with the OP. Isaac was terrible, I prefer John Franklin. And yes, Malachi was gorgeous.

I agree OP and I was just going to say this. This Malachai was so much better looking then the other Malachai. For sure!
With this said the guy in the other movie was a better actor though!
The redoing of the children themselves to be younger sells me more on the concept as a whole. The way presented in 84 makes them older and also seems to make it more believable in some ways but so much more bland.
I like how they are younger and we have a lot more creepiness that it's younger children doing it and they actually show some more normal way in how they seem like not as horror killery, but then i kick it into high gear for when they need to sacrifice someone.
I think these children were much creepier and made HWWBTR seem much more present. When the children appear older it's more about them and that they would survive on their own even with a god that doesn't exist in form of an anti-extremeist message. But when the kids are younger you get more of a mystique in that they are surviving with help. I find that far more creepy and effective.
As far as actors, I absolutely hated the old Malachai to the point where he turns on Issac it's just a plain terrible plot twist. This militant guy is just going to take over against a prophet to do his own gain which no true understanding of loyalty.
This new Malachai however actually gets to provide emotion. He still makes mistakes but he doesn't make a stupid move in trying to take over he learns from it and grows as a character.
However the new Issac just loses a lot of his power in the way the old one was great in. I think Issac should be portrayed more seriously like in the old one, and in a way i wish we could see old Issac preforming with new Malachai because i think that's how i'd like to see the characters performed.
