What went wrong with the Ghostbusters relaunch with Melissa McCarthy?

Melissa McCarthy is either “hit or miss” as far as her films - The Heat, Spy, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and Tammy were really good.. Everything else was bland or terrible. Ghostbusters was among the latter category.

Kristen Wiig is not funny is large doses - He biggest role (Welcome To Me) worked because it was more drama than comedy. Bridesmaid wasn’t bad, but that was a decade ago. Basically Wiig cannot be easily classified and Ghostbusters seems to have been the wrong vehicle for her.

The film wasted Kate McKinnon - Seriously. She was arguably the funniest of the Ghostbusters and the film did almost nothing with her. Basically they should have cast someone else as underusing McKinnon was a waste of her talents.

Leslie Jones just wasn’t as funny as they needed her to be - “Loud Black woman” is a stereotype, not a role. Jones really didn’t do much with her role and the film really didn’t seem to be suited to her skills. The result was a poor performance that didn’t help the film.

Nobody wanted the film as it was made - People wanted a third Ghostbusters with all , or most, of the original cast. What they got was a bizarre amalgam that wasn’t very funny and only starred one of the original players. Basically, it was a bad idea that never got any better.

It felt like a feature-length SNL skit. It doesn't have the wits, novelty, and humor of the original Ghostbusters.

It was a movie the fans didn't want.

It failed on so many levels, it fails to win over the hard-core fan base, it was very woke in it's plotting and execution, it was botch gimmicky female parody of the original.

Feig & Co made a fatal error in calling the fans misogynists, alienating audiences by placing an emphasis on political views, it's nearly always better to go with a mixed cast of you wanted a female lead.

Not many people are fans of the lead actresses, they find half of them obnoxious especially Melissa McCarthy, Anything with her in I'm simply not interested in seeing or find her cringing to look at, It maybe a superficial thing like her body weight or she seems obnoxious and loud, I can't put my finger on it.
