Good movie, disappointing ending

*warning, this post has some spoilers*

The movie had so much emotional weight, but the way it ended was such a letdown. I mean, we just witnessed Toby giving up his own life to let Jim kill off Bellroc and it was such a tearjerker (reminds me of Tony Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame), but having Jim go back in time went against that moment and everything that was established in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy. The time traveling aspect made sense in Wizards, but in this movie, it came across as anti-climatic.

The ending would've been better if everyone in Arcadia did a memorial for him kind of like what Avengers: Endgame did. That at least would've been powerful. But nope. The writers just ran out of ideas and were like, "Duh, why don't we let the main character time-travel back to the beginning of the 1st season of Trollhunters and let Toby be the first human trollhunter?" Like, seriously, Toby didn't have the same skills and agility as Jim did throughout the entire trilogy. So, why would the writers consider Toby to be capable of that amulet when he was perfectly capable of wielding a friggin' warhammer?

I had so much high hopes after the final battle, but the ending ruined the entire trilogy so much for me.

Came here just to say this. My little siblings & I love the Arcadia shows. This was a pretty good film for the most part

And also wish they stuck with the bleak ending. They won but also lost a bunch of people they cared about. People actually sacrificed themselves for them. I was legit sad for a sec for Toby's death. That was a hero's death

Wish they didn't undo everything & go with the cliched ending

I love the Arcadia shows too. Trollhunters had a more progressive storyline and some character growth for Jim Lake and his friends (although I was mixed on Troll Jim and didn't like Merlin despite David Bradley's excellent voice work), 3Below, although not quite as strong as Trollhunters, still did a good job expanding on Aja and Krel and didn't mind the Sci-Fi tone since it meshed very well with the first show, and Wizards was just as emotional as the two, although I wish it would've lasted a second season to give Douxie more character growth.

Possible spoiler, read at your own risk...

I was and still am angry and disappointed about what they did to Strickler and Barbara. I am extremely angry at the moron who thought it was a good idea to kill one of the couple just after they had gotten engaged.
I only watched this movie once and had pretty high expectations for it and then the whole movie was a big disappointment.
Visually good and of course the voice actors did an absolutely fantastic job, so no complaints there. The only minus is the bloody awful script. Somehow it feels as if someone on the scriptwriting team or something hates the union of Barbara and Strickler.
I think it would have been good to leave Strickler alive. Even if injured, but alive, so that he and Barbara could have been together. Plus it would have been a good moment to show that despite their differences, still two such different beings can be together. In this case, a changeling stuck in his troll form and a human female. That love doesn't look at the outside, it's what's inside that counts. And now I don't want to hear a word about incompatibilities between species. This series and the film are a fantasy where anything is possible. So you can kindly leave the scientific side out of it, it just doesn't fit into this fantasy story at all.

The ending was pretty poorly conceived too. Nothing really ends. Also, I wanted the troll weddings for Strickler and Barbara. They would have finally deserved it, as well as the kiss they were never given. But of course I also missed something for Jim and Claire. An engagement party, for example.
