Why isn't "Easy A" as memorable as Clueless, Heathers or Mean Girls?
"Easy A" was marketed as the next teen classic of the 2010s, but barely anyone remembers it compared to Heathers, Mean Girls and Jawbreaker.

It was a good movie but I think Emma wants to go to the fans as a serious actress over being a it girl for a couple of years.
shareBecause Emma Stone was never the star that Hollywood tried to tell us she was. Seriously...do you know any Emma Stone fans? I certainly don’t. There’s a smugness about her that’s very offputting.
shareThe movie isn't nearly as funny as "Clueless", and the heroine isn't as likeable.
Stone is a very good actress, but she's really a character actress with a movie-star wardrobe. She doesn't carry the same persona from film to film, in the way that makes fanboys and fangirls develop crushes, she's a different person in every role.
The movie is a brilliant version of The Scarlet Letter. Nobody remembers it because it fully applies to our time.
It seems a contradiction, but it's not. People like to criticize problems that don't apply to them, so they can watch it from a high moral position: look how they were!!! The problem portrayed in Easy A is too much of a current problem. Witch hunts have become standard now. Nobody likes the pointing finger pointing at them. It's understandable that the movie has been forgotten.
Never heard of Jawbreaker, didn't like Mean Girls. Heathers was a black comedy.
I guess by the time Easy A came out the genre was done? I actually like the film and thought it was pretty intelligent for this sort of thing. Maybe that was the problem?
"Dirty Girl" is another example of a great film in this genre which largely went unsung.
It's neither as good as some of the films you mentioned, nor as memorably bad, and nothing in it sets it apart from pretty much any generic teen film of the same era. I sometimes confuse this film with John Tucker Must Die. Except the latter is actually is more memorable.
shareI guess it depends on the age and decade you grew up in.
Teens of the 80s are likely to be fans of movies like "16 candles", "breakfast Club", "pretty in pink", etc.
Teens of the 90s are mostly fans of "Clueless", "She's all that", etc.
Teens of the 00s are mostly fans of "Mean Girls", "13 going on 30", "Freaky Friday".
