Looper having sex with his own mom....
Did anyone else do a double-take?
Yes, and then immediately thought Red Herring. Then thought Homage (Terminator).

What scene was this??
shareAlmost every scene in Looper is an allegory for possible plot lines that don't appear on the surface. In this case, OP is referring to the possibility that Young Joe is actually a grown up Cid. Listen to the conversation between Cid and YJ when they are hiding in the tunnel next time you watch it.
Therefore when YJ has sex with Sara, he would be doing it with his mother.
Btw, Looper if chock full of these allegories, which is why I discover new ones every time I watch it.
Brilliant film.
What mwilliams56 said. And I'll add the possible red herring in OldAbe's telling of how he met Young Joe.
"You came to me, alone, in a train car." (rough quote)
[jump to final scenes in Looper]
Cid is alone in a train car.

Rain... Have at it! :)
shareNot only that, but if Young Joe is a grown up Cid, he would have to have been sent back in time at some point. I don't think there's any suggestion that loopers are from future. In particular, Young Joe clearly met Abe in Cid's past. Also, Sara appears to believe she knows when and where she gave birth to Cid and doesn't show any sign of having met Joe before. In order to believe Joe is Cid, one needs to hypothesise lots of stuff that is at odds with what's in the film. So it seems to me that the parallels between Cid and Joe's stories are red herrings.
shareThat and above!
As for the train, I took it as Joe just thinking that he turned bad because of the loss of his parents so would Cid.
In that sense it hints that Cid is another Joe with massive powers, I never took it as Cid is Joe as a kid.
Personally, I think it's a red herring (Joe being Cid), but I felt that the film suggests Joe has distaste for people that show off (use?) their TK. Once in the car with his coin-levitating friend, and again later at the farmhouse with Sara.
If he'd accidentally hurt someone, he would have likely have issues with using it. But if negative emotion caused his TK to accidentally detonate bystanders, you'd have probably expected it to happen when his wife was killed.
In this case, OP is referring to the possibility that Young Joe is actually a grown up Cid. Listen to the conversation between Cid and YJ when they are hiding in the tunnel next time you watch it.Joe is not Cid. Cid was just another kid, like Joe, that was abandoned by his mom at one point. Think about it, Cid was the future Rain Maker. Joe was still Joe in the future, and did not have TK.
Anything can happen when they're start playing with theories, paradoxes and *beep* being Cid YJ he could even fecundated himself! oh my gooood:-7 Come think of it, wwyd with a piece of *beep* hot ass of a mom like her! Besides, is the south, isn't it?
shareOh Gods. Another one of you literal morons.
She is not his Mom.
Joe was born in the past. Not the future. He doesn't have amnesia, he would remember his childhood if he was Cid. He doesn't have the same eye color. He is not TK. He can't exist as the rainmaker and Old Joe at the same time. Shall I continue?
It's a symbolic loop. They have *similar* childhoods so he changes Cid's path by killing himself.

When Cid got shot in the face, don't you think the scar would have shown up on young Joe's face? Everyone else, including Joe, when the young version was hurt, the scar showed up on the older version.

yeah maybe they did that on purpose

if Joe is Cid then why doesn't Joe use his TK abilities to save his wife or any time else in the film?
