This movie or salo?

which film did you think was more messed up?

reply

What is messed up is people that watch and enjoy this kind of garbage.

reply

I thought Salo was a snore fest but others seem to think it was disturbing

reply

I say this.. Salo was frustratingly boring, and had less shock appeal.. The only thing Salo had on this film was realism..

reply

neither. both of them are highly artistic films with a message.

it is sad that people compare this to august underground and similar childish crap.

reply

No, 'Salo' was an artistic film with a message, this is just a bunch of nasty *beep* that's there to be shocking. There's no message or deep meaning. There's no 'dark reflection of our modern society' or any of that pretentious *beep* This is just a couple of dickheads making a movie with the most *beep* up things they could think of in an attempt to be 'edgy' and 'shocking'.

ok, now you are just describing august underground and the similar.

like it or not, serbian film is not comparable. there is a sense to it. ironically it even has a somewhat related message to the one in salo.

reply

Actually this was a message movie about war and a political statement about the Serbian government. Had it been a straight up film about fetishizing war heroes and corrupt government, no one outside of Serbia would have noticed. So using a snuff film as a metaphor, they got the point across and got noticed world wide. It was actually a clever move on their part.

reply

Salo is without doubt the better film, artistically.

reply

I think of myself as a very desensitized person, so it's hard to find a movie that I feel is genuinely messed up and leaves that kind of impression on me. That being said, I would say this one probably beats Salo.

Our songs will all be silenced, but what of it? Go on singing. -- Orson Welles

reply

salo was a snoozefest

reply

I enjoyed both as artistic films, but would prefer Salo. A Serbian Film is supremely filmed in my opinion. Very slick, stylish and visually appealing. Salo was more realistic but the set pieces were gorgeous and stunningly beautiful throughout.

reply

This by far. Salo was nothing in comparison to this. I feel disgusting for even watching this movie. I was going through a "Must-See" movie list and this was on there. I regret watching it. I need to go look at kittens and cute stuff now, cause ugh...

reply

This. although this is obviously a lot more 'cartoony' and dressed up than Salo, Salo only really had one stand out scene for me - the tongue scene. Whilst this had many messed up scenes. Salo is very gritty and has a very 'real' feel to it, something that this obviously does not, so I wouldn't disregard someone for saying that Salo is more 'messed up' on that front.

reply

This. Salo was disappointing.
