Why ethnicity of actors matters....

There are a lot of people here dismissing the fact that the main character is not Arab/Middle Eastern. This is ridiculous and here is why: How many times do you see a role for Middleasterners or South Asians in the mainstream western media? VERY rarely. It is far rarer than seeing a white, black or Latino person. So when there is that rare movie that features these people, why don't they cast someone from that ethnicity to give them a chance in racist Hollywood? This is a negative movie, but then again most movies about South Asians or Middle Easterners are and that is an entirely different subject.

the race matters .Ethnicity isnt a real big deal.

It's interesting to see how people dismiss this, compared with the huge debate over making Chinese play Japanese in Memoirs of a Geisha.

I think this does show there's perhaps less sensitivity towards Middle Eastern culture/ethnicity... although personally I don't mind where the main actor is from.

while it's true, and I would have liked to see an Arabic actor in the role of Uday Saddam Hussein, remember that "Devil's Double" is not a Hollywood/american production at all.

it's a business with so many variables that can make or break something getting made. even if the end result is a great movie, there's likely to be something that they half-assed because no one's going to take an exit survey at movie theaters asking ignorant(note i'm not saying stupid) people what ethnicity they thought the main character was, because they only care what he looked like. you might as well just ask for equal opportunity policy in hollywood lol

i agree the standard should probably be held on something like the main character, but once you give in you're just going to have someone complaining about something else further down the line of production. no matter your opinion on the movie the guy did an at least decent performance at least, many think he was great. i guess that's enough
