And even if you want the actors to speak English, at leats have them do Iraqi accents! They were half british accents and half who knows what.
You make it sound as if you have never heard this done before.
Though here, some seemed to be making the attempt at a
'mideastern person speaking english as taught to them in
Iraqi English class,' accent.
But overall, speaking generically about accents in movies,
since the dawn of talkies, folks have been pretending to be all sorts of
nationalities and just using their British accents.
Not once during Jason and the Argonauts did I ever say,
" DAMN, AINT THESE GUYS SUPPOSED TO BE GREEK? WHERES THE GREEK ACCENTS???"
As an American, Im going to say that the use of the Brit accent
as a 'stand in' for any other foreign accents just seems to work for me.
However, it doesnt work for me when its a movie about RUSSIA.
Seems I am required to only accept a fake ruskie accent,
cant use brit there for some reason.
And Asians must use an asian flavored 'english' accent.
"Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that"
