White Castle > Guantanamo Bay > Christmas
White Castle is one of the best comedies of all time. A stoner classic that also touches on race issues by exposing and satirizing racial ignorance. And you have to commend Warner Bros and New Line Cinema for taking a chance on two talented Asian American actors (other Hollywood studios need to take notice)
Guantanamo Bay is vastly underrated and almost as good as White Castle. I don't understand the hate for this film at all. The scope of their adventure was bigger (the government is after them and they're racing across the entire country) and it was a great satire on the terrorism scare in America. Rob Corddry's character steals the show and it has one of my favorite endings ever (the nerdy yet sweet moment where Kumar recites his math poem)
I rank Christmas just slightly under Guantanamo Bay, but that might change after I watch it a couple more times. I love how the cheerful Christmas theme contrasts with the raunchy over-the-top humor

now go home and get your fuckin shine box!
Well said, Teebs. White Castle is an all-time classic. Guantanamo Bay and Christmas are good and above average for Hollywood comedies, but White Castle is great. I prefer GB very slightly to Christmas because it feels a little more emotionally substantitive, but it's close.
White Castle >>> GB > 3D
White Castle
Christmas
Guantanamo Bay
Love all 3 though!!! The first one is so different from the other two though.
1) Christmas (Great)
2) White Castle (Good)
3) Guantanamo (Okay)
I was surprised at how good the 3rd one was. I really like the other two, but Christmas had me laughing out loud all the way through. The writing was so good this time around, almost all the jokes were hitting.
I totally agree. While the first set up the world and was played straight the third is when it's finally realized. Gitmo was not a failiure but a disappointment especially since it takes place right after the first only to go in this quasi-political comedy quest including the KKK and now former President George Bush while he was in office.
Funniest part in all of them is still Neil Patrick Harris. If you told me that he would go from Doogie Howser MD to Starship Troopers almost stealing Undercover Brother from Dave Chappelle and playing this coked and drugged up version of himself in these movies I wouldn't have believed you. He as well as Penn and Cho make this a very modern yet very strange trilliogy. I'm still amazed they had a parody of the very very current OWS movement in this.
1. 3D Christmas
2. White Castle
3. Guantanamo Bay
White Castle
GB

In response to a previous poster's comment about Guantanamo Bay's larger scale adventure, I think that's what people didn't really like about it, it lacked the simplicity and heart of White Castle. It went from two friends just trying to go to White Castle to them becoming fugitives and running across the country. In my opinion, 3D Christmas brought back the heart and simplicity of the 1st, and thats why I loved it.
From now on I shall stand for the opposite of killing. "Gnodab"
Im with mdm on this one...the original is easily the best--it was original, witty, very funny, etc, etc. Escape from Guantanamo sucked. It's one of the most disappointing sequels of all time. All the set-ups and jokes were from the original and just tweaked a little. H&K Christmas at least dug up some new stuff. It was not funny all the way through, and for some reason, still felt cheap and and was not as witty. The only thing I felt consistantly funny was the running gag about the toddler. Even though the 3D was surprisingly strong, it seemed like more of the writing went into making fun of 3D instead of geared at clever social farce.
White Castle: A-
Christmas: B-
Guantanamo: D
Right now I would have to go with:
White Castle
Christmas
Guantanamo bay
but it might change when christmas comes out on dvd. I just don't like 3d at all but I understand the appeal. And I couldn't find a place near me that showed it in 2d. So for right now white castle is the best.
Marcho... gotta say, I'm all in with you on the hatred of 3D. Don't worry - high prices, headaches, and people becoming smarter (especially when they start to realize, like you, how many movies they've gone to see that were just adjusted to be 3D and not actually shot with that as a key factor of the film) will make that disappear. History's shown that already at least once before.
That said, for me, for the kind of film it is, it's actually the best use of 3D I've seen. Listen, when I go to see "Avatar", I don't really care if I can see a blue dude running 3-dimentionally through a forest (actually "Avatar" was so uninspired plot-wise, I hope to never see it again)... but there's a little something fun about seeing broken eggs splatter out at you, or see a huge joint flying at you, when you know it's meant to be kind of goofy.
To an extent, I actually think the film does a good job of playing with the 3D, so that you know that the filmmakers kind of get that it's dumb, too, which somewhat adds to the comedy. No, it's not necessary for the whole thing, but it was worth it, coming from a guy who hates that stuff too.
Oh, and, clearly:
White Castle
Christmas
Guantanamo
Best: White Castle
2nd: 3D Christmas
3rd: Guantanamo Bay
