SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE

Scenes From a Marriage 03: Scene III: The Vale of Tears

Season 1 Episode 3

A year later, Jonathan and Mira reconnect. After debating a polarizing proposal, they begin to sort through all that they've learned since separating, rekindling old connections at the risk of exacerbating dormant wounds.

Is anyone else planning to watch the show tonight?

Since I'm the only one who's been posting here on a regular basis in the past 2 weeks, and there are no replies at all back to any of my episode topics, it certainly doesn't look like that's the case.

So please let me assure you if you stop by that (at least so far) there hasn't been any FIGHTING or YELLING like some of you others previously expressed your concerns about.

So far the couple has been pretty CIVIL to each other in that regard.

What sticks out is how the description of the FATHER (when he reads from his MORNING PAGES) is precisely the same impression one got from the SON during that OPENING Scene of Ep 1 when they were being INTERVIEWED.

As you may recall, the HUSBAND DOMINATES that conversation (the same way as he says his father use to DOMINATE and RULE the household back when he was growing up).

And his wife was also pretty much in the same kind of role as his mother was (even though she's also got a job where she's the one in charge of things).

People hate Jessica Chastain because she willingly appeared in Kathryn Bigelow's propaganda movie and loveletter to the CIA Zero Dark Thirty. Also, if I want to see Scenes, I'll watch Bergman's original on Criterion Channel. I don't need an Americanized remake.

Here's A REVIEW which mentions the "MORNING PAGES:"

https://www.leisurebyte.com/scenes-from-a-marriage-episode-3-review/

We get to know that Jon is seeing a therapist, who encourages him to write “morning pages” every day. When Mira insists he read them to her, we find Jon’s excerpt talking about his strict father, anxious mother and reflections on his own shortcomings which might have triggered Mira to walk out.

So just like Jon couldn't take it anymore and WALKS OUT on his father, MIRA also couldn't take the same kind of treatment coming from Jon and WALKS OUT on him???

And then after the break up with her boyfriend she comes back again, and ASKS HIM to move to LONDON (or to also WALK OUT of their home), the place where he's also GONE BACK to adding back in the kind STRICTNESS that he grew up with, and he's also ADDING ON the kind of STRICTNESS that he grew up with into the life of his young daughter as well ???

This show is definitely what I'd call a VERY interesting CHARACTER STUDY. Wonder if we'll ever get to see what the daughter ends up being like as an adult and if she's anything like her father or her mother???
