Season finale
It was brilliant how they tied it to the original. Halfway through his account of how he lost his best friend Brian it hit me and I got chills from the realization.

shareHow did he lose his best friend? I forgot now.
share***SPOILER***
Brian was killed in Vietnam when he and Bruce went back to save 3 soldiers who were injured.
Brian Cooper turns out to be Winnie's older brother who's death is revealed at the end of the first episode of the original series. It was the perfect nod.
I wish I would watch it again. It sucks that the show got pulled. It was a good show.
shareDamn, that's the first I'm hearing that news. It's a shame. I delayed watching it for a few months because I feared it wouldn't do the original justice. It definitely did. I also had a creeping suspicion, even if it did, it wouldn't be well received or popular enough to be renewed.😢
shareI think it had actually done pretty good and was renewed. But cancel culture - someone made accusations against the actor from the original show, and these days, accusations without proof are enough to get things canceled.
Thinking about it now - it would have been cool to have characters from the original series (I know new child actors would be needed) pop up from time to time.
Somehow I can see Kevin being friends with Dean and his older brother (forgot his name) as the jerk bigot.
Yeah, Savage was removed from his involvement a while ago. I believe he was an executive producer and he directed several episodes. He acknowledged his transgressions and apologized for his behavior, so they weren't just accusations.
****Good news**** It actually got renewed for a second season!
The creator and show runner said they aren't going to bring characters from the original series into the current one. He thought it would be cheap and felt having Bruce and Brian serving together and being best friends was/is a more organic connection to the original. While the OG series doesn't specify where it takes place, the reboot takes place in Alabama and including OG characters would be a stretch.
I think the subtle connection is perfect.
When is it supposed to return? It's already a year gone by.
shareIt's going to air over the summer starting June 14th. Now whether it gets back to the regular season schedule, who knows? It's wild though that they originally were going to bring it back but nixed it by getting rid of their Tuesday night comedies and moving Abbott to Wednesday. Good move but it was at the expense of The Wonder Years. This is The Goldbergs' last season. Maybe it comes back at 8:30 Wednesdays. We'll see.
shareI am glad to hear that. It will be interesting to see how they handle the time jump.
