Ron's wealth

I'll preface this by stating Ron Swanson and Nick Offerman are both personal heroes of mine.

It was running bit that Ron has worked since a young age, is very frugal, despises banks, and put a great deal of money in gold buried in & around Pawnee. In the 6th season it's revealed that he has a lot of money such that his children would never have to work and five percent of it is still a lot. We can assume that he has at least $10 million which could be heavily & wisely invested so his children could live well off the interest.

Ron has a strong work ethic, which explains why he worked when he didn't have to. He also abhorred big government which sort of explains why he went to work for a government to stifle it's work. This creates a few contradictions. He largely wasted his time at the Parks Department when he could have doing work more conducive to his skill set like starting Very Good Building and Development Company at least a decade earlier. He loves the outdoors & nature and thinks that the National Parks Service is the only worthwhile government agency, so why would he join the Parks Department and twiddle his thumbs so as not to help the government nor actively hinder government work with parks? His desires to thwart local, county, or state government work would be best fulfilled in other areas where he could stonewall and slash budgets for education, roads, public transportation, tax collection, or employee healthcare.
