Season 4

I love this show. I do. But the city council campaign in season 4 seemed...ridiculous. Do cities really make that big of a deal about city council elections? Especially small cities like Pawnee?

I've seen campaign signs for city council members, sure, but a huge debate? A bus tour? The celebration party? It seemed more like they were running for governor.

Welll..first it's a TV show and that was the season 4 story arc. I personally did not enjoy the arc, but they've got to sup it up for entertainment purposes. I highly doubt there'd be a debate of that stature, but that was one of the funniest scenes of the season. Also, it's Leslie realizing a lifelong dream. She's going to go all out. Plus, Bobby Newport is a multi-millionaire and the Pawnee citizens are morons, she had to pull out all the stops to beat him.

I don't know exactly how small city council elections go but I'm positive they do more than just put signs up. How would anyone know their platform on anything? How would they prove they're a better choice than other candidates?

Anoth repoint to this is that they actually address the fact that it is out of hand for what it is when the jerk reporter is there from Indianapolis doing the interview in the airport.

haha i agree with both posts here.

The whole thing is a parody of real elections. ie. the scene where the townspeople are about to get violent when they find out Leslie isn't from Pawnee. Andy wisks her away into a waiting vehicle outside like she's a Presidential candidate, and he's a secret service agent.
