April and Andy a couple?

This is one of the parts of the show that didn't work. There's no way people with their personalities would actually be a couple and married. He is possibly the dumbest sitcom character I've ever seen. Loud, full of himself for no reason. She hates the world and wants to keep to herself. A real girl like her wouldn't look at him for longer than 2 seconds in passing.

I loved them up to the end of Season 2 but after that it just didn't work for me. I felt like they didn't know what to do with them once they actually got together. It was disappointing.

Their relationship fell apart for me when they started to dumb down Andy while making April more professional, they grew in different ways that meant their pairing no longer felt convincing in the way it did in S2 where they were both just bored and goofing around together.

That's a gripe I have with the show in general though, I feel like the writers didn't know what to do with quite a few characters as it progressed (particularly Chris, Andy, Ann and April). I'm all for characters growing and changing, but with those it never felt like organic growth, just dodgy writing where they exaggerated particular traits beyond believability for comedic effect. They did the same with Ron too but to a lesser extent.

I disagree. Yes Andy is dumb and seems to be getting dumber, and April is secluded, but they bring out the best in each other. April isn't afraid to correct Andy and he isn't afraid to push her outside of her comfort zone, such as at prom. They also support and push each other like crazy: few relationships could make it through him being in Europe and her being in Washington with Ben with no reservations or trying to stop the other party from going. I think my favorite comparison I've seen about them is that it's like if a cat married a dog, which personally I think is on point.

Have to disagree. Imo, I think they totally complement each other. And you can't really say that Andy is 'too' stupid because that is the whole point of PnR's CHARACTERIZATION. They are all in the extremes. SUPER: workaholic, nerd, hot and pretty, stupid, tedious, swaggy, loser, fit, American and super insignificant (Donna) lol. BUT if there was such an objectionable relationship, it's Ben and Leslie; they have zero chemistry. Yeah, they're alike but I don't see real sparks.

I agree with the posts that say they complement each other. Opposites often attract for a reason. If April were to partner up with another morose, negative guy (Orin?) it would be redundant, and often people sense this in real life and seek out those with at least some traits that will balance them out.

However, I do agree that as Andy got progressively dumber later in the show, their relationship seemed a little less plausible but then again: the whole latter seasons of the show is problematic for a myriad of reasons, least of which this.

As for the last post on this thread about Ben/Leslie not having chemistry—I still totally agree w/ that too, ha. It was just kinda forced...

Meh, I feel like people who say stuff like that take the show too seriously. Maybe April hates most people for other reasons than being dumb, or sees something redeemable in Andy (he's loyal, funny, nice, etc.)
