Did Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe want to leave the show?

Or were they just simply written off in Season 6. I was really sad when they left :/

I think they both wanted to move on but I can't remember.

She left to focus more on writing and I'm pretty sure he left to pursue other work. Both left on good terms:)
